Gift for a new Baby

I think he's grown out of things like that.

He's seven now and at Junior School probably.

I have bought classic books, The Hungry Caterpillar, Peter Rabbit,sometimes with a small cuddly toy and these have been very well received

I recommend sports gear and Harry Potter.

The child is reaching that age 😁

Tempting though it is to buy cute baby clothes I never do because inevitably they won’t be to the parents taste. I recently bought s small soft toy attached to a very soft square of fabric from the White Company as a baby gift and apparently the baby loves it. I’ve seen photos of her and she always has it with her. I would call it a wooby but that’s just our word for a comforter.

I’d buy a book, and visit Waterstones to select it.

A big bath towel?

A useful little gift is a hooded bathtowel.
I have often given these when it's not a close friend and extravagant gifts aren't appropriate.
I agree with buying a size bigger (allowing for season!)
My DD recently bought age 6-9 months for a tiny new baby but bought pretty summer dresses!

A hooded bath towel is a good idea.
I'd forgotten about those, someone gave me one for DC1 and it was very useful.

Something for new Mum too would be nice, some body lotion, perhaps.

I'm not a child person - but years back I got involved when someone I knew vaguely got very upset in front of me a couple of times - because she and her husband had been waiting for 10 years (!) to have a baby and she was one very upset lady indeed that it wasnt happening - ie she wasnt getting pregnant (understandably).

Cue for she was telling me a couple of months later that she was finally pregnant (yep...everything went absolutely fine with the pregnancy....it hadnt occurred to me that it wouldnt). Cue for I decided everyone else would be likely to give "starter" presents so to say - ie things appropriate for a newborn. So I decided to think a couple of years down the road and instead bought her a mini starter series of childrens first books instead.

It seemed to go down very well - both the present itself and what I'd chosen to buy her.

A basket full of essentials is so useful .

One of my daughters ended up with two huge sacks full of pink frilly things which she hated and they were given away .
I do think that you have to be careful and consult the parents.

I have a friend , who specialises in portraiture and she has done incredible portraits of small babies ,toddlers and children-they are much appreciated .
I think that a newborn might be tricky though she works from photographs.

I'll second the hooded towel. So nice to wrap baby straight from his bath and keeping his head warm.

Small gift for the baby and a pie, quiche or cake for the parents.

I never buy new born clothes. Baby showers, family and friends seem to have all that covered. I often buy plates, bowls or cutlery for when they begin feeding. There are some lovely ones on the market to cover all tastes and price range. It depends how much you want to spend and how particular the new Mum is. The last new baby gift from me was money as the wish list was very exclusive and expensive.

I would buy a wooden toy - stacking rings probably.

I’d go with a book / books. Can never have too many and can be re gifted if duplicated.

Plain white vests are always gratefully received by me!!

I'd go with larger size clothing or maybe a book for the baby.
If there's an older child then I usually add in some chocolate buttons or something for them.

I have a stock of cutlery and crockery sets that can be regifted if they already have a set. I work on the principle that as the baby won’t need them for awhile others may not have thought about them.
