""""At this time of year? A really nice country hotel in an old house with large lounges, open fires, comfortable chairs and a really good chef.""""
This is Monica's post, the first response.

Tomorrow this will be me until Tuesday.... can't wait.
Add the swimming pool and the Spa... such bliss. It was our Christmas gift from one of our AC.

Everyone looks too clean and smart and a bit like models in a Cotton Traders catalogue

grin grin Oh PECS that did make me laugh, and I know exactly what you mean! I feel a bit the same way about the people who go on cruises and want to sit at the captain's table! grin I don't know anyone who has done a Warner's holiday.

Buffy your planned trip sounds great! We always used to go to the Canaries in January for a bit of winter sunshine. Good thinking!

We had a lovely little break in Oxford a few years ago, at an old hotel outside the city. The local bus stopped right outside so we could go into the city centre and explore and eat, and had no car parking hassles either.

Sorry Lemon typo

Lemin Brexit is in the OP so it is irrational to come on and complain. You could have ignored this thread.

Jalima1108 Sat 19-Jan-19 16:05:15

Is it humanly possible to keep Brexit off at least one thread?!
no!

although I'm not sure if it has been mentioned on either of the D of E threads- yet.
Give it time.

Warners Hotel Littlecote Manor in Berkshire is lovely.
Not a Warners, but The Close Hotel in the centre of Tetbury is very relaxing and plenty to do and see in the surrounding countryside.

The Canary Islands are perfect at this time of year. I used to holiday alone in a self catering apartment and didn't have to speak to a soul. I hired a bike and tootled around, stopping off anywhere that took my fancy.
Wish I was there now!
I hope you can find a place that suits you,Namsnanny

oldgoat Sat 19-Jan-19 09:34:40

If you want to go to Warners, you'd better go soon. Can't imagine how they'll replace their lovely, hard-working staff who are mainly from mainland Europe and on zero hours contracts. Just the sort who will be excluded from the UK after Brexit.

NannyJan53 Sat 19-Jan-19 09:17:36

Another vote for a Warners Hotel from me. I have been to Alvaston Hall a couple of times, and you can do as much or as little as you want. We are going to the one on Hayling Island in June.

Buffybee Fri 18-Jan-19 21:18:41

Good luck with that! ?
And we appear to have detailed the thread!
So apologises! ?

Jalima1108 Fri 18-Jan-19 20:40:15

I will have to go over there and sort them out!!

Buffybee Fri 18-Jan-19 20:37:52

I'm living in hopes Jalima!
I'll probably get back and have my rubber gloves at the ready.
They're not much into cleaning when on the Poteen. grin

Jalima1108 Fri 18-Jan-19 20:35:03

Give them a list of daily orders before you go Buffybee

(the cheek of it, cleaning the toilets before you go indeed! Some people!)

Buffybee Fri 18-Jan-19 20:31:47

Ha! I'm hoping to return to the Argy being sparkling clean and refurbished.
And Trevor and Thor's chests being properly oiled.
I shall be thinking of you all.........

Jalima1108 Fri 18-Jan-19 20:25:03

you will clean the Loos at The Argy before you go I hope?
what a cheek!
Off you go Buffy and leave them to it.

Jalima1108 Fri 18-Jan-19 20:23:49

Ooh, nice, yes, we had a weekend there years ago. A lovely apartment, quirky buildings and the estuary close by.

Bikerhiker Fri 18-Jan-19 20:03:17

Portmierion every time. Sooo relaxing!

PECS Fri 18-Jan-19 18:31:47

Well I won't dismiss them totally katyk?

Katyj Fri 18-Jan-19 18:03:22

Ha PECS I know what you mean with the adverts they are OTT. They are just nice hotels, the county houses are lovely, we went to the one in Somerset, can't remember what it's called, but the accommodation and food were lovely. Most of the people were couples over 65 .

lemongrove Fri 18-Jan-19 18:00:10

Good for you Buffy enjoy your holiday ( you will clean the
Loos at The Argy before you go I hope?) grin
I would also choose a nice country house hotel, there are plenty to choose from.

Jalima1108 Fri 18-Jan-19 17:55:38

No dogs then?
Ah well and I don't think they're by the sea either.

PECS Fri 18-Jan-19 17:54:19

katyj the adverts for Warner hotels has always put me of! Everyone looks too clean and smart and a bit like models in a Cotton Traders catalogue
Are they really just ordinary hotels without young people?

Jalima1108 Fri 18-Jan-19 17:47:46

Somewhere with a warm conservatory overlooking the sea,
lots of good books and a charming waiter/waitress would suit me just fine smile
If I could borrow a small dog to take for a little walk that would be a bonus.

eazybee Fri 18-Jan-19 17:40:36

Find a country style- hotel in a city, such as York, Edinburgh, Chichester, Worcester, where you will have comfortable accommodation, good food and sofas by fires, but also interesting shops (if you are quick), museums, galleries, a theatre, rivers and ancient buildings, all within walking distance.
