Do "star charts" work?

Evening all, an usual good wishes.

I am wondering whether to introduce a star chart, but am unsure as to how effective it might be.

The goals are not too taxing, mainly things like clearing toys away, ditto with clothes, and general tidying up behind you, rather than leaving things strewn about, not sploshing too much water in the bathroom etc.

If I did introduce a star chart, what might I use as an incentive once the set number of stars had been achieved?

BTW, he is sixty three and a half.
