For the last month I haven't been well so my usual routine of going for a swim between 8 to 9 has been cancelled. It's quite nice to be able to stay in bed until after 9 and I have been spending the mornings reading the paper and watching tv. It will be hard to get back into my old routine.

I haven't read the whole thread, but guess I'm one of the earliest. Usually up at 5.30am.
Toilet, coffee. and feet up in the recliner for morning prayers.
I go to bed early too - off soon.
At my age I can't cope with activities in the evening, especially in these dark winter days.

Up by 0620, on the road by 0720, at my desk by 0800 smartly dressed, breakfasted and having left a tidy house. Shame it can sometimes go downhill from there.

How I envy those retired I have to be up at 6 weekdays but although I wake around the same time weekends stay in bed reading or watching tv until around 9

Lots of early birds around, I love to lie in until about 9am, but this morning got up at 7am!! had to be at my physio at 8:30 and needed to drive there, had a little snooze this afternoon and look forward to my lie in as usual tomorrow. The days here are dark and drab,I dont feel the need to get up early in the winter.I love my bed at this time of year.

Guess I could be called a seasonal sleeper. Spring/Summer with the longer daylight hours sees me up and active by six at the latest. In Winter I seem to automatically hibernate and arouse around nine. If the weather is total rubbish, I simply coorie in and stay put with iPad for entertainment. Ain't retirement grand?!!

CBBL Thu 21-Nov-19 17:12:16

After years of getting up at 6.00, I still tend to wake up then. Hubby insists that I stay in bed till 7.00am, as neither of us are great sleepers, and often wake in the early hours - sometimes not getting back to sleep at all. We don't need alarm clocks, unless for some reason, we have to get up extra early!

Mollygo Thu 21-Nov-19 16:29:57

6.45 wake up- it’s automatic. Cup of tea, shower and ready to go -even if it’s not a work day. At weekends I don’t get up then but read or listen to an audiobook.
The best thing is a holiday with a pool somewhere warm, so the early rising can be rewarded with a swim.

Greciangirl Thu 21-Nov-19 16:15:05

Saggi.

I feel exhausted just reading your post.
Where do you get all your energy from?
It seem to do all that on very little sleep.
I have to admire you.

Greciangirl Thu 21-Nov-19 16:09:25

I am an early waker, unfortunately.
Oh how I would love to be able to lie in and sleep until 8am, or even later if there’s nothing happening.

Always awake between 6 and 7am.

Another sleeping aid you can buy over the counter are Phenergan tablets.

Tinker18 Thu 21-Nov-19 16:08:11

6.45 on my three childminding days, 8.00 on my 2 dog walking days and on the day I go rambling and on Sunday when I get hungry grin

This has been interesting reading! I would very much like to know where I could get melatonin gummies?

Canalboatgranma Thu 21-Nov-19 15:15:39

Awake 6.00-6.30, get up and immediately make my breakfast and coffee, listening to Classic fm. Then I have at least two hours reading and watching YouTube until my DH gets up. It's the only time I am on my own and I love it. My DH is kind enough to stay in bed until I have eaten my breakfast, to give me peace and quiet, if he wakes up early. But once he is up then the TV is on for the day whether he is watching it or not.

Parklife1 Thu 21-Nov-19 14:45:39

I get up at seven, sort out bits and pieces, have a coffee and go to various exercise classes, depending on the day of the week.

TrendyNannie6 Thu 21-Nov-19 14:41:59

Around 630am usually. But since the darker mornings it’s been nearer 7.

goldengirl Thu 21-Nov-19 14:17:40

Up at 7. Bed at 10. The change in my tablets means I'm less tired when I wake up and I feel so much better and I'm sleeping better too.

Brigidsdaughter Thu 21-Nov-19 14:13:58

Stella14 I'm similar. An owl. Sometimes later depending on need of a long sleep. (A lifetime of being slow a.m.regardlesss of sleep. V poor thyroid, on T3 to survive.
Sussexborn you have a routine that's natural to you, not a 'poor' habit. I function best later in the day. The dogs fit in too

sodapop Thu 21-Nov-19 13:56:24

Woken each day at 8am by one of my dogs patting me on the shoulder, time to go for a walk. After the walk its time for coffee and GN.

EllanVannin Thu 21-Nov-19 13:49:47

My bladder wakes up at 5am which used to be 6am before the clocks went back, and it won't listen !
I can't seem to get into the normal time now of 6am. This is what happens when you've been a creature of habit all your life----it's a hard habit to break.

I can't really sleep after this interruption and just find myself tossing and turning.

Kittye Thu 21-Nov-19 13:44:30

About 8.30 after I’ve had my cup of tea in bed. Brought by DH ?

4allweknow Thu 21-Nov-19 13:41:50

Late going to bed - just after midnight then read until falling asleep. Awake 6.30 am ish but turn over and its nearer 8 when I get up. Some nights I'm awake at 2,3,4 get up have cuppa then back to bed

Chardy Thu 21-Nov-19 13:41:33

I'm retired, but now have dogs to get up for - so around 7am. Am very tired by 9pm, but sleep so badly I try to stay up until 10pm hoping I don't wake in the night.

HurdyGurdy Thu 21-Nov-19 13:38:42

Awake at 5.30, up at 6, out of the house at 6.30 to cycle to work for 7am.

I am very much looking forward to my retirement (even though, barring a lottery win, it is still seven years away) to have the option of getting up in my own time, even if I wake up early.

Bedtime is 10.30-11pm. Sleep time is anything between then and 2am

Saggi Thu 21-Nov-19 13:36:05
