This happened first about 3 weeks ago and I thought it was because I had handled a Satsuma. It wouldn't wash off but disappeared over 24 hours. Then I woke up this morning to find dark iodine coloured stains down my index finger and light orange blotches on both palms and on the back of my thumb. I have googled this and nobody seems to know what it is so I am wondering if anyone on gn has come across this?

SaraMariah thanks for posting but it’s not that. The orange stains we’ve commonly experienced tend to appear over night on the hands or feet, cause no pain, and disappear within a couple of days. The best conclusion so far is that it relates to what we eat, in particular foods containing carotene. Quite why it suddenly appears however, is a mystery. I suspect there is an element of stress which affects the way our bodies process these foods especially if we consume more of them than usual.
Still a bit of a mystery but as most of us have learnt on here harmless, apart from trying to scrub it off your hands not realising it’s internal rather than external.
Noticed weird staining similiar to those previously posted on my hands. this forum is all I could find for answers. I did handle a food box (hello fresh) the day before and the day of I did touch some branches of a tree. Doesn't come off by washing hands.

It is weird. It doesn’t scrub off but is internal meaning something you ate that contains carotene. This doesn’t explain however why sometimes it occurs and sometimes not so there has to be another factor that affects the way your body normally processes foods. It could be hormonal or stress.
Hey its the first time ive had patchy orange fingers today
i have started a gardening job in thr past month.
Today I was breaking apart flowers into smaller segments so they can rot easier in the compost. Snapping them into smaller branchies.
There were 3 different types of flowers but one of them was cosmos
But earlier in the day I was harvesting Carrots and squashes (i didnt eat any).
Ii didnt notice orange hands after harvest but i did notice them after flower destroying.some of the bendy branches oozed liquid, it was white tho. Other branched were dehydrated and snapped easily.
Woke up to the mystery stains on my left hand and one small dot on my right. I’ve been on the carnivore diet for a few months but recently started incorporating other foods. I ate carrots and hummus last night and have definitely been on the alcohol a little too much lately. I also decided to finally eat a slice of pizza yesterday which hasn’t been in my diet for a while. I believe these spots are coming from the food. Seems really weird there’s not an explanation! I would second the carotene hypothesis. I haven’t had carrots in a long time and suddenly this shows up the next morning after I finally ate a bunch of carrots. Could definitely be carotene consumption.
And tomatoes. Probably tomato paste on your pizza Cloudo.
Welcome to the Orange Hand Gang 😅
I was wondering what a carnivore diet was but still reading when I read, 'I ate carrots and humans last night'!
WHAAAT? Backtrack....oh HUMMUS, phew!!
So glad I happened across this feed! 13 weeks post-partum female here. I too have also been experiencing the same rust-coloured stains on my hands and today went to my GP to discuss them. Interestingly before reading this post I suspect I have a thyroid issue. My doctor seems to think my TSH levels are within the "normal" range but I went to a talk by a Dr recently who said that thyroid should be tested against your own "normal". Not just a scale. Here in NZ they only test for TSH, but really they should test for T3 and T4 panels to get a fuller picture. I wonder if everyone here is experiencing symptoms of hypo/hyper thyroidism which then leads to the carotene hypothesis resulting in the staining. A lot of people have mentioned thyroid issues already.
My GP also suggested anyone taking B supplements may present with discolouration.
We didn't delve into it further but she mentioned something to do with Diabetes too.
I also wondered about the liver because jaundiced originates from the liver. Maybe our bodies are in excess of a certain heavy metal toxin, and it is presenting as patches on our hands. We are exposed to heavy metal toxins everywhere, vaccinations, our water, the environment etc. I personally have not had the covid vax but have been vaccinated my entire life.
For me I read the beta carotene thing and discounted it, but I will observe my diet and see how that tracks. I have ruled out any cosmetic/hygiene products.
The allergy theory is an interesting one, maybe it is a histamine response. I have been breaking out in patches of eczema, as I did post-partum in my last pregnancy, and it was a histamine response to a lot of food groups. Turns out my liver functions were Elevated and a liver detoxification diet & supplementation for 2 weeks fixed it. I didn't have the staining then however.
Anyway, GP has ordered lots of bloods so the investigations continue.
Some people get orange palms if they drink a lot of carrot juice. Do you?
Now it's my turn to post about these orange, / brown spots on hands. I woke up yesterday with one small spot on my left thumb and another one on my right hand finger. I have had a lot of pumpkin soups, veggies soups lately but the night before I did eat at a Japanese restaurant and probably ate things I've never eaten before. I also took a pill of vitamin D ( orange flavor + color) the day before. I also grabbed an avocado at the supermarket. I'm also super stressed lately and this stuff increases my stress level even more !!!! I also suffer from another Unknown medical condition called burning mouth syndrome, ( unknown because nobody knows what causes it and how to stop it🙄) been 2 years in hell and now another unknown problem..I'm fed up !!! Regarding the briwn spots I believe it's food + stress and I hope it will go away soon but I'm scared 🫤
Enoughisenough13 I started this post about 3 years ago and have had a couple of bouts of orange spots but am still here monitoring these posts. I and other posters have done lots of research and I do believe it is certain foods and stress that are the major causes. It usually goes away in a few days so I don’t think you need feel scared. We have all felt mystified by it and no doctor has come up with an answer. I am sorry about your other problems. Medical science still doesn’t know everything but we all know about orange spots.

Can anyone tell us what Justyna said, please, as we don't have a language converter?
An orange spot appeared this morning just below the knuckle of my little finger on my right hand. Just the one. Not had this for ages. I’ve not eaten any excess carotene, I don’t think, but I did eat a small portion of carrots last night and I have had a very stressful three months but no worse yesterday than before. Maybe it is culmative.

Translation from Polish:
Good morning, I have been struggling with the same problem with my son for 6 years, for some time now he has had such spots on his hands, but only when he wakes up during the day, the spots are wrong, I have no idea what it could be because there is no information about it anywhere. The blood results are ok.
I had this in February 2016, long before Covid was a thing. Back then I couldn’t find anything online that fit my experience. I was pregnant and like most that have posted, the “stains” appeared overnight. Now, almost exactly 8 years later, my daughter (7YO) woke up with the same staining which is what brought me to this forum. I’m happy to find that others have experienced it and can connect here as it was lonely and a little scary when I had it. I do believe it was food related, but unclear on if it was from handling or eating it. I had eaten (and obviously handled) peppers and lemons. I remember that distinctly. And another detail is that I had gestational diabetes which could speak to the liver and pancreas not functioning properly and causing the reaction. Anyway- another vote for food consumption or handling and just some type of reaction based on stress your body is going through at the time, or just some kind of random mineral processing disfunction… ?? Or aliens. Maybe easiest to just blame aliens. Not telling my 7YO that theory though.
Also- 25Avalon thank you for starting this thread!
Attaching photos here. Seemed to not work on my last post.
Thanks Rustyin. My spot disappeared after 2 days. Only the one spot this time so I’m guessing more stress related this time. I’m glad if this thread is helpful. When it first happened I searched and searched and could find nothing. It’s reassuring to find others have experienced it to and it doesn’t seem to be anything to worry about. Supporting each other has been brilliant.
But I have eaten nothing strange nothing different I'm completely bewildered

For some reason it suddenly appears. You could well have eaten foods that contain carotene in the past with no effect, which is why I thought there was another element which could be stress. Stress can alter hormones which could be the catalyst. That’s the best explanation we’ve come up with so far. It doesn’t seem to be harmful and disappears in a few days.
Okay guys i have read all you conversions and reply till the date.
And even i got that orange spot on my finger yesterday, i would just like to say is that recall what you did the time the day or before you got that spot. For me thes answer is simple i had burnt matchstick to lighten up a lamp and i held the matchstick till the very bottom and almost burnt my finger and thumb.
and the same day evening I developed the orange spot on the exact place from where my finger and thumb almost burnt.
At last i will just say there is a simple reason to cause it which might have triggered near the same area where your spots are
Aditya that may be right for you but not for the rest of us. When mine appears it is not from a burn. Plus it often isn’t just in one spot - have a look at other posters photos. We have established it is internal not external but are still trying to work out exactly how it manifests. So far we think diet, stress and hormone related but not sure of the correlation.
Hey guys joining the gang here 😅26 F Woke up around 2 days ago with these stains on my hands, on the first day it was more on my left and not so much on the right and now it’s on the right which you can see here and completely gone from my left? Washing doesn’t help no matter what I use. I’ve felt really tired lately I think someone else mentioned a similar thing. I have had this exact thing before but not sure what’s caused it. I normally do eat a lot of tomatoes etc but lately not much at all. I have handled Amazon boxes though.
