Ignore the title. It's just a way for me to get people to read this...

Hi everyone! I posted about my italian in-laws coming over unannounced and asked them to stop kissing my baby.

I was both torn apart and supported on these threads...now I'm back to update you all yet again to implore you all to take things very seriously.

I am now in Canada with our baby for a planned trip, booked before the rampant outbreak. I will not be flying back until things settle.

Please please take heed: the situation in Italy is dire.

Socially isolate as much as possible. Don't mix with people. Wash your hands. Stay inside.

All of our friends and family in Italy are fine, but they cannot go outside or visit people. They cannot travel. They cannot see their grandkids. Grandchildren can be asymptomatic carriers and kill their grandparents. 2 week incubation period. Old people are more susceptible. There arent enough respirators for everyone and the doctors have to choose between who to save and who not to. This is NOT fake news! Please, I implore you to socially distance yourselves.

Canada has announced 3 weeks off of school, but they are saying it's an extension of our march break so that people don't panic.

Please stay safe!

I hope April brings better news for everyone. Sending everyone the best.

Hugs during this trying time.

Without testing, confirmed case figures will be low.

pinkquartz Mon 23-Mar-20 18:58:04

grin

there are NO excuses for our bumbling PM and Govt.

They behaved as of we were immune. They are stupid and arrogant.

How pathetic to call out Gagqjo on her plans.
I doubt Johnson has any plans on anything, just more of his bumbling and what was that word? Spaffing to do!

GagaJo Mon 23-Mar-20 17:04:45

All of that is still in place. Working remotely for my Swiss school and going to China in August. Mortgage and bills getting paid.

But feel free to spend time searching my myriad of old posts from 3 1/2 months ago to prove me wrong. I won't be returning the favour. Not interested enough.

Gfplux, I'm off to Switzerland for 6 months and then China for the foreseeable. The pollution in China puts me off a bit but I have very good friends there so^

....20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing.

GagaJo Mon 23-Mar-20 16:16:57

I don't think it was a plot BUT Dominic Cummings was prepared to let the uk elderly die.

And OF COURSE the uk should have been preparing earlier.

And WHY aren't our NHS staff in hazmats? No stock. No preparation.

GagaJo Mon 23-Mar-20 16:13:55

Oh for gods sake MawB. It was obvious it was coming. Anyone that thought we were immune was incredibly ignorant.

Yes, I was at work. I need a salary. I have a mortgage and bills.

Callistemon Mon 23-Mar-20 14:42:16

MawB so well said.
Please, please, GagaJo, can you not read your own contradictory posts?

Callistemon Mon 23-Mar-20 14:41:20

You really think is all a Chinese plot?!
No

tickingbird Mon 23-Mar-20 14:28:34

Go watch this. They'll wish they'd listened now.https://youtu.be/vukHzn2juxw

There was too much ignorance here for far too long. A lot of it by our government who bear most of the responsibility for the deaths. They should have begun preparing in January^.
Now we have doctors and nurses in standard medical clothing when they should be in hazmat suits. We are short on ventilators
Blood on their hands
I do not think inflammatory language like this is particularly helpful.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Exactly when did you set off to work abroad, Gagajo?
And when did you decide to leave your part of Switzerland, which I think you said was a hop, skip and a jump from the border with N Italy? So that you could cuddle your DGS including in his sleep?
Let’s not be too self- righteous or too inclined to some sort of conspiracy theory.

Summerlove Mon 23-Mar-20 14:17:22

Why?

Because I don’t live In a world where I fear that every other country/political party is out to get me. I will happily eat my words if proven wrong though.

Namsnanny Mon 23-Mar-20 14:12:55

At this moment I do not think it is a plot by China, but why the incredulity summerlove?

Summerlove Mon 23-Mar-20 13:41:48

You really think is all a Chinese plot?!

Callistemon Sun 22-Mar-20 16:45:04

Oh was that China?

Callistemon Sun 22-Mar-20 16:44:29

Gaga

Whoever wished this on the world has ^blood on their hands

Or a hidden agenda.

GagaJo Sun 22-Mar-20 16:30:49

I also knew an apocalypse was coming. We only had to watch China to see that.

I took it seriously very quickly and was pooh poohed by others and some of my own family. They realise now.

pinkquartz Sun 22-Mar-20 16:00:59

Oh good to hear I did read it wrong?

Why aren't our borders shut...they Govt are not giving clear messages
If the Govt sounded serious and put measures like closed borders into action maybe more people will listen and take it seriously.
I took it seriously very quickly......and am very appalled by lack of Govt action

Summerlove Sun 15-Mar-20 00:02:25

Pinkquartz, I was quoting other people who feel that all the panic is “fear mongering” and “media hype”.

I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear.

I take this very seriously. I know many people who do not

pinkquartz Sat 14-Mar-20 23:29:29

*More people die of the regular flu than this

Summerlove

How can you say that? It is not over therefore we do NOT know how many will die.

Lucca Sat 14-Mar-20 19:30:07

However I love the videos of quarantined Italians all over the country singing from their balconies

Lucca Sat 14-Mar-20 19:29:17

Giulia, Google it it makes horrible reading.

Hetty58 Sat 14-Mar-20 16:34:12

It seems inevitable that there will be many unnecessary deaths due to their health services being overwhelmed. In a report from the Lancet:

'Intensive care specialists are already considering denying life-saving care to the sickest and giving priority to those patients most likely to survive when deciding who to provide ventilation to. This attitude has already been criticised by the current President of the Italian Comitato di Bioetica who, in a recent declaration to lay press stated that the Constitution recognises the right of every individual to receive all necessary health care. They might not recognise that the reality is that intensive care wards are overflowing with patients and that COVID-19 is not a benign disease. Our doctors and nurses are modern heroes in an unexpected war against a difficult enemy. In the near future, they will have no choice. They will have to follow the same rules that health-care workers are left with in conflict and disaster zones.'
