I enjoy gransnet as a new member, but was wondering how old you all are. I became a gran for the first time at 59 (kids were late starters!) I wouldn't have been bothered with what family call my old lady forum then but now at 74 have more time on my hands and find it interesting.

What made you join

I became a nana in 2017 when I was 57. I now have three grandchildren an£ love it. I don’t post very often but read the posts most days, everyday at the moment. Stay safe everyone. Jane x

Mid to late 50s when GSs 1 and 2 were born. GS1 very nearly 15 and his brother is 11. Last year GS3 was adopted after DD2 had 7 miscarriages and DS had a daughter so we’ve been very lucky.

Hi I'm 68.. with two grand children one 10 (going on 18!) and one just 11 months .. it's very hard at the moment as normally I look after 10 yr old every week and in holidays - we have such fun together! I miss her.. have only managed to see 11 mth old a few times due to distance... Strange times for all! staying safe inside with OH.. hope you are all well

I’m not a gran yet. First grandchild (gs) due end of July when I will be 56.
Even though I am younger than some on this site, I feel as though you are all “my generation”.

ElaineRI55 Fri 03-Apr-20 11:29:36

First GC at 48. Now have 8 of them from 2 to 16. I'm 64 now. I'd heard of Mumsnet but didn't realise there was a Gransnet till a couple of years ago. Like the sharing of ideas and experiences, the debates ( unless they become unkind) and the genuine advice and support offered when folk are struggling.

I am 56 and joined fairly recently having had a busy introduction to being a grandparent. We were blessed with 2 grandsons in quick succession..one is 16 months, the other 11 months. We look after them together 2 days a week..they are incredibly funny cousins.
I haven’t joined in any of the discussions before but enjoy reading the comments and advice. I always think that collectively it is a very wise community.

Eldest grandaughter 27. Am going to have my first great grandchild in June. Youngest 3 in a couple of weeks and she is a delight. 8 of them altogether and most definitely wouldn’t be without them. They do indeed keep you young

Lizbethann55 Fri 03-Apr-20 11:26:11

Thought you should never ask a lady her age????????. I am 65. Two grandchildren by the same daughter. They are 4.5 years and 19 months. Had hoped to have more but eldest daughter is having no luck, two failed IVF and a miscarriage. Youngest son engaged so maybe more to come. I envy grans who became grans quite young. Though maybe not as young as a colleague of mine who became a gran last year at 38! The same age as my eldest daughter. The great gran is younger than me and is devastatingly glamorous and the great great gran is hardly ancient and has a toy boy!!! Joined GN last year.

I became a grandma at 52. I’m now nearly 65 in two days time! I’ve got 4 grandaughter’s and 1 grandson.

Sorry pressed send too soon!
My instead of Mu!
I joined because I thought people would be my age, but you are mostly all younger. In lockdown for 12 weeks as have Asthma, already considering murder!! How can men be so aggravating with the best of intentions!

Herbie9 Fri 03-Apr-20 11:24:46

Sounds as though I'm one of the oldest on GN - nearly 85 grrrrr. But it's only a number isn't it? I have two beautiful gd age 16 and 19 years. Miss them terribly right now.

dogsmother Fri 03-Apr-20 11:24:24

61.
Desperate to be a grandma and whatever name the first declares I’m to be known as a battle between my three millennials. They are all in good relationships but none married. I guess I just have to bide my time and hope that one day it happens.

I am 69 and I am not a gran yet. Joined for interesting discussions, handy hints and to enter the competitions. Also a member of mumsnet.

Became a Nannie for the first time when l was 50. My oldest grandson is now 16. 7 grandchildren of varying ages down to newborn. Missing them all. Worried the 2 year old might forget me but Face time is a godsend. Joined Gransnet a few years ago. To be honest l'm working so don't spend that much time on here. Most people are nice a few (and you always get them) are opinionated and can be quite rude if people haven't got the same views as them or not as strong as them. As the majority are nice and enjoy debate and other peoples views an asset to people lonely or on their own

Kartush Fri 03-Apr-20 11:21:59

I am 64, had first grandchild at 41, second at 54 third at 56. First great grand child at 62. I joined because I found the site online and I don’t interact with people my own age a lot and thought you all seemed nice.

Shrimp Fri 03-Apr-20 11:20:31

I am 71 and joined from the beginning, while my first grandchild was still a bump!
I don't post often as I find some posters quite judgmental, although most are very supportive.
However, there is a lot of very good and helpful advice on this site.

I'm 61 years young and became a grandmother at 55 years. I joined gransnet for the enjoyable company. I took early retirement after 40 years working as a nurse, finishing 1 year ago. I've remodelled the house and now starting in the garden, as I found it very difficult to slow down, kept thing I was on holiday for over 6 months. Workmen put stop to the holiday theory and I've vowed never to change house again after 9 months of continual work. I must admit I've found it easy to adjust to the quietness, but I do miss the "gossip" of work.

luluaugust Fri 03-Apr-20 11:20:27

I was 49 when my first GC arrived and 63 for the last. Now 72 how time flies. I love Gransnet, join in when I can and am interested in all the very different opinions. Hopeless at arguments so unlikely to join in with any argy bargy

MargaretinNorthant Fri 03-Apr-20 11:18:42

82, first Grandchild at 55. I'd lost mu husband 4 months before he was born, he never saw any of the 9 I now have. Eldest is now 30, all the way down to 16, but no Great grands yet.

hapgran Fri 03-Apr-20 11:17:54

I am also 69. 7 grandchildren and one step. Oldest one will be 10 in July. Missing them all dreadfully. How DID I hear about gransnet?!?

Conners12 Fri 03-Apr-20 11:15:52

First Grandchild at 58 and joined soon after. I have three now with another expected in November. I have asked for advice from the group and found it positive and helpful.

jmor Fri 03-Apr-20 11:15:24

My first granddaughter was born when I was 57, her brother was born the following year and then their half sister was born 3 years ago and I am 72 at the end of this month. I love them to bits and am missing them so much.

Strutgran Fri 03-Apr-20 11:14:54

I'm 67 with 4 grandchildren arriving in quick succession since I retired 4 years ago and another baby due this month. I like the conversations around how grandparents try to protect their time while being even handed with childcare.

busyb Fri 03-Apr-20 11:14:02

My first grandchild was born when I was 58, I am now 69 and have 2 more of 5 & 8.
I joined Gransnet about 3 years ago.

Cobweb01 Fri 03-Apr-20 11:13:09

I joined due to like minded, interesting people and not just about being a grandparent. I am 57 (58 in July) and my daughter is expecting her first child in September (she will be 32 this month).
