I enjoy gransnet as a new member, but was wondering how old you all are. I became a gran for the first time at 59 (kids were late starters!) I wouldn't have been bothered with what family call my old lady forum then but now at 74 have more time on my hands and find it interesting.

What made you join

I am 61 on Easter Sunday. I had my first grandchild 2 years ago and now have two and one more on the way. I was always very happy not to be a Gran but now I love it.
I joined Gransnet about three months ago I don’t often post, so many of you have such wisdom and commonsense and good humour.

I’m 69 and became a gran when I was 47, now have 7! I joined this site as my daughter in law is on mumsnet and told me how good that and this site is. She’s right as well!

I'm 63....will be 64 in May, and first became a grandmother 10 years ago. Second GC is now 4. They are both lovely boys. But as I mentioned in February on another thread regarding estranged grandparents, I don't see them any more. Heartbroken, but after 10 years of trying to be included in their lives I've sadly finally accepted it just isn't going to happen. One good thing is, I suppose, that now we are locked in our homes, it has prepared us and I am only missing them just the same as I was "pre-virus". It hasn't been such a shock to my system as it has for other Grandparents.

My first GD was born when i was 43, i am now 60. I love reading the posts everyday, but suffer with a mental health illness. Before the virus, i didn't go out of my house very often, maybe once a week, if i was feeling well, or not for months if i was not too well. I can't mix with people very well, so have no friends. Thanks to all of you who post daily, i look forward to reading your posts daily.

I'm 63 and became a grandmother for first time 16 years ago, now grandma to 6, but also have 4 step grandchildren oldest aged 24, youngest aged 3. 16 year old was staying at my house studying for GCSE's when schools closed and decided to stay here, enjoying her being here although I'm working full-time. Don't post a lot but always enjoy reading the different threads.

I’m 53... too old for Mumsnet, and I really enjoy company but work nights in a Locked unit, love my colleagues but we sleep when not together or we are with family. A lot of my friends are from where I used to live and I don’t get to visit them enough. I’m more of a writer than a talker.. so you guys tick all the boxes! Plus I live the stories.... I’m learning loads! ???

I’m 49.
My ds (23) has 3 stepchildren, age 5, 3, and 1 month.
They have been together on and off for a few years.
The children are adorable and call me Nanny. They don’t see their fathers his family, so he is the only Daddy they know.

I was 55 when my first GC was born. He’s just turned 16 and has been followed by 7 more; the youngest is 7. 4 of them are far away in Australia.
I joined GN in May 2011 after seeing a small piece about it in the Sunday Times. I had a different name then but changed it as I could have been recognised by it ?

willowcat1 Sat 04-Apr-20 09:11:10

Macgran43 Sat 04-Apr-20 11:58:17

I became a gran at 52 First grandchildren were twins so glad I had more energy to help out then. I am now 76. Some friends are just having their first grandchildren in their seventies and complain about being worn out! Adult grandchildren are lovely and are phoning and Whats Apping during current situation. Their lives have been affected much more than ours and I do feel sorry for them

Monica53 Sat 04-Apr-20 14:01:01

First grandchild a few months off 52 then twin grandchildren nearly 55, I am 60 in September. So pleased to be young and fit enough to enjoy them.
