I enjoy gransnet as a new member, but was wondering how old you all are. I became a gran for the first time at 59 (kids were late starters!) I wouldn't have been bothered with what family call my old lady forum then but now at 74 have more time on my hands and find it interesting.

What made you join

Hi everyone - I am 66 - my grandchildren are between 22 and 5 - have 10 grandchildren and miss them so much as I know we all do. I became a Nan early - was bit of a shock but wouldn’t have it any other way.

77. I have 6 Grandchildren from 9 to 25 years old. I cannot see them due to lock down but feel bad as home schooling isa nightmare. I know it’s the holidays but the 11 plus is coming up. A worrying time for us all.

I am 69 and became a grandmother at 59. Now have three grandchildren. Joined quite a while ago because I became a gran.

Nannysprout Fri 03-Apr-20 11:06:28

I was 63 when I became a Grandmother and 64 when I joined the forum. I joined in a panic as I needed tips on childcare for a one year old! Have found many interesting threads on here since then ?

I have only just joined too. I am 74. My first grandchild was born when I was 54, and my youngest grandchild (I am lucky enough to have seven), was born when I was 67. I thought it would be good to be able to talk to others of my age group on here, because so much of social media relates to young people.

Too old but not too old for [café] and cupcake

Am I the baby gran? I was 43, I’m 59 now and my grandson turns 16 tomorrow 4th April. I bought a convertible just to prove a point when I became a gran! My beautiful son passed away when he was just 33 and without my grandson I don’t think I could go on but for him I’m still here. I discovered the site only recently and find it powerful, it joins us together, helps you realise you’re not on your own, that we all have our crosses to bear and comments can put a different perspective on your own views. Glad to be a part of it ladies ?

I'm 65 and not yet a gran, but feel this forum suits me better as many members are my age. I know there are others who are not grans on here though I guess we are in the minority.

I'm 70 and this lockdown for "over 70s" was affecting me mentally - wondering why my neighbours aren't offering to help the old lady! Then I realised that if I was still 69 I wouldn't be included. The zero birthdays never bothered me until the last one which I found hard to accept. Needing to get my head around it still!i

Not a grandmother (unfortunately) and I am nearly 70.

Sillyoldfool Fri 03-Apr-20 11:09:26

I am 72. Four lovely grandchildren, eldest 17, youngest 2. Still fit enough to ride my horse but sadly on lockdown currently- thanks China!

I became a Nanny when I was 58 and another GC is due in September.
My promise to her when she was born (2hrs old ) was that I would be the very best Nanny I could be and fill her life with fun.
Joined GN fairly recently as DH is on football forum and got tired of listening to views on football so thought if you cant beat them join them . We now sit in the same room each on our own iPads and swop funny stories.. Small pleasures wink

My only grandson was born when I was 63 (now 68). I had been on Mumsnet for a few years, but was somewhat perturbed by some of the popular threads. Took the opportunity to join Gransnet, which is an oasis of good sense!

Rose30 Fri 03-Apr-20 11:11:20

I have 2 grandchildren aged 2 and 3. We were all late starters!

Thecatshatontgemat Fri 03-Apr-20 11:11:23

I am 64.
Came over from Mumsnet, as was sick to death of the Nasty Noras whose only pleasure in life was to make rude and spiteful comments. These were not even aimed at the poster, but at the responder.
Miserable small minded people.
Even although it was not aimed at me, enough was enough.
I just don't need pointless nastiness in my life.
So here l am, with the vague hope that the comments/advice will be productive rather than poisonous.
So far, so good......

70 now, first GC at 63 followed fairly swiftly by 3 more, 2 each from my son and daughter. Best thing that ever happened to me, loved being a mother and adore being a GM. 2 live in NZ though so I don’t see them but the 2 here I have been seeing once a week which makes the present situation so hard ? video calling just not the same as holding their little hands and giving them a cuddle.

First grandchild at 53, now 69 and trying not to think too hard about the next birthday! Having said that, I have found every decade better than the last so maybe I have nothing to worry about!

Cobweb01 Fri 03-Apr-20 11:13:09

I joined due to like minded, interesting people and not just about being a grandparent. I am 57 (58 in July) and my daughter is expecting her first child in September (she will be 32 this month).

busyb Fri 03-Apr-20 11:14:02

My first grandchild was born when I was 58, I am now 69 and have 2 more of 5 & 8.
I joined Gransnet about 3 years ago.

Strutgran Fri 03-Apr-20 11:14:54

I'm 67 with 4 grandchildren arriving in quick succession since I retired 4 years ago and another baby due this month. I like the conversations around how grandparents try to protect their time while being even handed with childcare.

jmor Fri 03-Apr-20 11:15:24

My first granddaughter was born when I was 57, her brother was born the following year and then their half sister was born 3 years ago and I am 72 at the end of this month. I love them to bits and am missing them so much.

Conners12 Fri 03-Apr-20 11:15:52

First Grandchild at 58 and joined soon after. I have three now with another expected in November. I have asked for advice from the group and found it positive and helpful.

hapgran Fri 03-Apr-20 11:17:54

I am also 69. 7 grandchildren and one step. Oldest one will be 10 in July. Missing them all dreadfully. How DID I hear about gransnet?!?

MargaretinNorthant Fri 03-Apr-20 11:18:42

82, first Grandchild at 55. I'd lost mu husband 4 months before he was born, he never saw any of the 9 I now have. Eldest is now 30, all the way down to 16, but no Great grands yet.
