I enjoy gransnet as a new member, but was wondering how old you all are. I became a gran for the first time at 59 (kids were late starters!) I wouldn't have been bothered with what family call my old lady forum then but now at 74 have more time on my hands and find it interesting.

What made you join

62 just had my first GC - she’s 7 mths. Wanted to feel part of the gran club - it’s taken enough to get here!

At first glance I read that as the 91 I have now. I am 71, with 8 grandchildren from 3 to 26

I am 63. Married for 39 years with no children hence no grandchildren but loving 40 career and now part time working life.

I became a grandmother at 67 to twin girls and am now 70!

I am 66. First grandchild born when I was 42. We now have 7, aged between 24 years and 10 days - our lovely new baby that I have never held, thanks to the virus.

4 of our grandkids live in the USA, and I joined Gransnet sometime after they emigrated. I was feeling a bit lost and reading about other people in similar situations helped.

Aonk,i too am nanna to an 'angel baby' as well.. and so we are all looking forward to the safe arrival of the new baby due soon, yet so fearful because of the coronavirus!...im still such a 'youngish' gran on here i guess,at 56,(birthday in summer) but technically i could be a great gran, but im not rushing the older 2 into it anytime soon& they still live at home anywaygringrin

Became a Gran for the first time at 58 and am now 71 and a Gran to 6. I’ve been on Gransnet for about four years. Dip in and out but love reading about everyone.

I am sadly neither a parent nor a gran but I still enjoy GN. I am 60.

Surely there is often too much concern attached to age. It is the figure that records how long we have been alive ! Some are old before they are young, some never grow up. I happen to believe that we should make the very best of every day, good or bad, happy or sad. Happily, in my dotage, I am now blessed with three great grandchildren. I am very young at heart and much enjoying being a recent newcomer to Gransnet. Lovely interesting contributors and meaty conversations.

I joined a few months ago at 67. I was 55 when my first grandchild was born and have four in total.
I struggle with the technology and still can't quite negotiate my way round gransnet especially when starting a new thread

Nannan2 Fri 03-Apr-20 13:59:48

Married& had my oldest at a young age,& eldest did same,so my oldest GC are now 22& 21,but i later divorced/remarried so my youngest 'children' still at home are 21& 17 in a couple of weeks! Ive some in between and so i have 8 GC altogether varying ages, and a new one on the way soon..I cant remember how i stumbled across gransnet? Probably some competition advertised.but was about a year ago maybe,or a bit more?..i like how its like a 'cosy group' and we all offer each other support& advice when needed,i dislike the young ones from mumsnet 'infiltrating' it just cause theirs is sniping,( im not saying you cant be in both groups, but you SHOULD at least be a granny,no matter what your age)the clues in the name grin- Opinionated? Maybe, but we all seem to be be on here..grin

I’m 64, soon to be 65. Have one grandson who is 18 months.
I like all the family problems, it’s nice to know others in the same position.

Fennel Fri 03-Apr-20 13:57:13

To balance out the ages - I'm 84 and know of at least one Gransnetter - Bijou - who is older than me. In her 90s!
others about my age. We have 9 grandchildren, all in their teens or twenties.
I joined Gransnet in 2013 when poor Carole (GreatNan) went missing to get more news of her.

oscaro11 Fri 03-Apr-20 13:55:34

I’m 64, no grandchildren yet but here’s hoping! I joined as it seemed the only site with interesting topics for the ‘older’ person. I enjoy most threads, particularly food and chat.

64 and became a step-grandma to my two lovely step childrens babies and I wanted to feel like a "proper grandma" so joined and glad I did. The children call me Grandma so feel very honoured and pleased about that.

I am 68 I had first and only granddaughter at 66 My daughter and granddaughter live with me and DH. I help to bring her up, as DD is working a key worker, keeps me young and on my toes.

Shelagh6 Fri 03-Apr-20 13:40:29

I am two months short of 88 - very fit - just become a g/grandma and have now seen him through a window! Quite emotional because his granny (my son’s wife) died 18 months ago - too young to go.

Elizabeth55 Fri 03-Apr-20 13:39:54

Oooops....not really sure how I managed to post my message twice...

Rose56 Fri 03-Apr-20 13:39:28

Hi there...I can’t even remember when I joined GN!! Oh dear... I’ve tended to be a ‘silent partner’, who checks it out on a daily basis. I am 64, with three young GC...soon to be 7, 5 and 2. They are an absolute joy. We FaceTime every day, during these most odd days. Stay well all of you. xflowers flowers
