I enjoy gransnet as a new member, but was wondering how old you all are. I became a gran for the first time at 59 (kids were late starters!) I wouldn't have been bothered with what family call my old lady forum then but now at 74 have more time on my hands and find it interesting.

What made you join

I am 61 with 2 granddaughters aged 1 and 3 who I am missing a lot but enjoying our daily challenges to each other such as drawing pirate ships, pirate hats which we can send to one another. Enjoying gransnet which I found just over a year ago though I do not post as often as I should

Hi there...I can’t even remember when I joined GN!! Oh dear... I’ve tended to be a ‘silent partner’, who checks it out on a daily basis. I am 64, with three young GC...soon to be 7, 5 and 2. They are an absolute joy. We FaceTime every day, during these most odd days. Stay well all of you. x flowers flowers

Hi I’m 65 and my grandson is 3 and his sister is 6 mths. I had my son when I was 33 yrs old, had to wait til the science was available he is an IVF child. I left work early at 60 yrs, arthritis made my job difficult, so was able to be a support to my daughter in law during pregnancy and after. We are close, her own mother died when she was in her early teens.

Very much missing my two youngest grandchildren who live nearby, because of the virus ?

Juno56 Fri 03-Apr-20 13:19:06

I joined GN about 6 months ago because I was so excited at becoming a grandma and wanted to be amongst other grandparents and learn from them.

katie1 Fri 03-Apr-20 13:17:40

I am 63, first became a granny at 49.

I'm 64 and became a grandma last year at 63. DGD is now four months old and, like many grandparents at this time, I am so sad that I won't be able to cuddle her again for months sad.

You are all young enough to be my daughters. Why do you feel old? I am 85 and my two lovely granddaughters are 8 and 10 and live in Dubai. Three cheers for Duo, which keeps me young!

Hi, I became a Nannie ( as they call me ) at 46, then again at 48 (stepdaughter) , 50 and 51 (daughter) I’m now 52.
4 grandchildren in total. I joined here in Nov 19 for some advice as our daughters partner left her in Nov when the youngest was only 2 months old.

She now lives with us and our two youngest grandchildren and I feel one of the luckiest Nannies around who can still see her grandchildren daily due to Covid-19.
It’s had its ups and downs but she’s in a better place to start rebuilding her life towards her own future and even had a much better new partner , who’s fabulous with the children.

I like the advice on here and seeing other people’s opinion, especially as we are all of different ages and life experiences.

Great forum x

Until late May I’ll be able to say that I’m 68. I was 56 when my first grandchild was born. I now have 7 amazing GCs aged from 11 down to 3. Tragically also an “angel baby” stillborn at full term nearly 5 years ago.,

Musicgirl Fri 03-Apr-20 12:58:37

I'm 55, no grandchildren yet, but enjoy the threads. A relaxation from the day job, which l enjoy very much by the way.

Parky Fri 03-Apr-20 12:57:53

Thank you all for posting. Such a lovely group of ladies. Hope all who are missing their grandchildren hang on in and keep to the distancing, I know how difficult it is. Even worse is not being able to cuddle my daughter who comes every day with our shopping.

I’m 60, 61 next month and have only recently joined. My grandchildren are 4 years old and 22 months. Lying in bed with a newly diagnosed condition that won’t be treated until COVID has passed. The discussions on Gransnet give me a lift and this is my first post.

JoJo58 Fri 03-Apr-20 12:52:56
