Burning mouth syndrome

I had this. It was due to vitamin & iron deficiency. Topped those up & it went away quickly. Horrible while you've got it though...

how about gargling / rinsing with non-alcohol mouthwash. can be quite soothing.
i have been doing this more recently, in the hope it will deter viruses etc, and it has the added benefit of deterring me from continuous nibbling.

I have suffered with bouts of this over the last few years. I’ve recently had some B12 injections and things seem to have calmed down. Also had some dental work done where they have replaced very old crowns and done some root canal work. Wonder if the infection in the root had been causing the soreness in my mouth. Fingers crossed that the improvement continues.

I have had this since I started the menopause ten years ago. It never completely goes, at the moment it’s quite bad, but I do feel tired and stressed. I’m going to try my b vitamins again. they seemed to help last time.

or something more like sore mucosal linings, in which case have you tried Nystatin drops.

Mine started nearly 20 years ago, it was awful. I’m convinced a tooth extraction was to blame, as dental work seems to be a common culprit, and it does seem to affect women over 50 in particular. An ENT consultant mentioned it after I’d had a nasoscope done, and apparently there is no cure.

You learn to live with it eventually, and avoid things that aggravate it, such as coffee, alcohol, and nicotine, (difficult for me!), and spicy food.

It seems to eventually go into remission, but does rear its head, especially if you are under stress, so there might be a psychological factor to it too.

I've never heard of this before. I thought it was just me.

I've had it continuously for more than 15 years. Sometimes it's worse but it never goes away and nothing I've tried helps. The medics don't know either. Anxiety makes it worse for me but I am convinced it's not the root cause. I think I've learned by now to ignore it.

Is this where the back of your mouth feels as if it is burning? If so, I have had bouts of this lately and am wondering what is causing it. I have considered my asthma puffer, mouth wash and non-alcoholic wine, all of which I use/have regularly. I'm giving up the mouthwash and the wine for a few days to see if I can track down the culprit.

I’ve had it for several years it comes and goes but nothing helps it permanently it always comes back. It’s horrible.
