My grandmothers, in an industrial Lancashire town, were Nanna on my mother's side and Grandma on my father's.

I don't have grandchildren (does that make me a fraud here?) as my daughter, now 40, has shown no maternal tendencies. If I did I'm not sure what I'd want them to call me except that I really don't think I'd encourage 'Gran'. But that's just me.

I’m Nanny Pap! When my first granddaughter was born I took soooo many pictures my middle son said “ you’re like the paparazzi!! Hence the name !! They even got me a number plate with PAP at the end and I love it!!!
Did want to be called Nanna but son said no ?

I'm Grammy. My two year old grandson used to get confused because he had 4 other grans and great grans that were all called Nanny so being Grammy sets me apart from others and I love it.

My GD calls me Gypsy Nanny after our dog. She calls her other nanny Holiday Nanny as she lives in Spain and that is where they spent their holidays before Covid. Did cause a stir at her nursery when they pulled my son aside and asked if I was actually a Gypsy. We still laugh at that. Just waiting to see what her brother calls me when he can speak.

How odd, Petalpop. My school could access extra funding for our Roma families - perhaps they were hoping for some of that. smile

We are Gigi and Pa, the other grandmother is Greek and is called YiaYia!

See my username! My DIL found it on Mumsnet as she was going into labour. Things got a bit hectic after that so there was no more discussion. Gransey it is and I haven’t met another one yet.

I am Nanny and DH is Dumpy. Our daughter tried to get her first child to call him Grumpy but he could not manage it and said Dumpy. So to this day he is Dumpy. He is not really Grumpy and it was more a joke that remains now.

Crazy haired Nana!

I have 5 grandchildren, the oldest two call me big gran (I’m 5’8” and their other gran is 5’2”). My middle granddaughter calls me granny (presumably her sister will too) and my youngest grandson calls me GranGran. No idea why ?.

Being Welsh I’m Nini, (Nain) as my mums mum was Nini to me. Husband is Grampy as he’s English, if Welsh he’d be Taid.

I’m called Garry by my American grandchildren ... a slip up from my first grandchild’s naming of me ... it stuck!

Dds tend to lead the way (they called my parents Grandad and Grandma) so I’m happy to inherit the honour.

DGS
has however come up with DadDad - logical enough but I’ve not heard it before - and then before a FaceTime call recently told his mum to call: ‘I want C... S... [my name]. I want to say Grandma I love you’. Aaawww!

My children loved my mother who was always Granny and when their children came along they called me Granny from the start. Fortunately the other grandmother likes to be called Nanny so everyone's happy.

My granddaughter calls me and my SIL's mum 'Nana' and if refering to either one of us in a conversation its Nana Sandra or Nana Lou. My son and my daughter (who have small children abroad and I only see on the phone) refer to me as granny which I will get them to change when the children are old enough to talk!

Nannie and grandad

hicaz46 Sun 18-Oct-20 14:40:01

I’m Nanny to 2 Grandchildren, Nanny Wells to the other 3. My partner is Nanny Carol to all and my ex husband is Grandad to all. As my DS’s wife is 2nd marriage and he has stepchildren there are all sorts of permutations, but we are all happy whatever we are called, and as long as we are all loved the same.

moggie57 Sun 18-Oct-20 14:41:55

moggie57 Sun 18-Oct-20 14:42:41

mrshat Sun 18-Oct-20 14:53:01

Grandma and Grandpa. Only yesterday eldest (11) decided on Gangsta Grandma!!! Youngest (4) has always opted to call DH Papa. We’re happy with it all ....

Roddi3363 Sun 18-Oct-20 15:01:28

I am called Oma and my husband Opa to honour his German heritage. His parents were our children's Omi and Opi. The generations alternate.

Bluecat Sun 18-Oct-20 15:04:52

Nana was the name for my grandmother, my mum and for me, at least to my elder DD's four children. My DH is Granddad to them.

However, my younger DD's children have always called me Nanny, for some reason. The oldest found it hard to say Granddad when she was tiny, so he is Papa to her and her sisters.

Sooze58 Sun 18-Oct-20 16:00:54

I’m Oma because I’m half German!

Grannysmith Sun 18-Oct-20 16:11:11

I am also Gransey - so you are not the only one!

Aldom Sun 18-Oct-20 16:16:58

My friend's children, now adults, used to call their grandmothers Dee dee (Edith) and Ooee, because granny used to call Cooee through the letter box when she arrived.

twinnytwin Sun 18-Oct-20 16:17:45

It's always been Nana for the grandmothers in our and my DiL's family so there's quite a few now. The step-grandmother is Grandma. My ex is Grandad and my new (27 yrs married) husband is Grampso. It was Grampy but has morphed into Grampso. They adore him.
