My grandmothers, in an industrial Lancashire town, were Nanna on my mother's side and Grandma on my father's.

I don't have grandchildren (does that make me a fraud here?) as my daughter, now 40, has shown no maternal tendencies. If I did I'm not sure what I'd want them to call me except that I really don't think I'd encourage 'Gran'. But that's just me.

I’m Grandma. The other grandmother is also Grandma. My SIL said the tradition in his family was that the father’s mother was always Grandma and the mother’s mother was Nana. My daughter (who had asked me what I wanted to be called) said the tradition she knew was the other way round.
MIL and I are both happy to be Grandma and the children didn’t seem to mind.

I'm Nonna (Italian for grandmother) and my huspand is Gramps (his choice).

I hate Nanny, Nan and Granny. Nan and Nanny sound like a Nanny goat and Granny conjures up pictures of a little old lady in a shawl sitting in a rocking chair. Grandma for me . Nice and dignified, I feel.

My now grown up children called my mum Nana, or Nan when they were older. Now I have two grandchildren, the eldest calls me Granny, (not my ideal choice but that's just how it worked out - family dynamics). He has a lovely Scottish accent and it sounds great.

My grandson from my son calls me Nanny, which is lovely.

I'm a Nana , as the other grandparent is Nanny.

I'm nanny as I wanted my 2 year grandson calls my husband dad as he does his other grandad? Can't say grand yet I suppose. His other nan is called appy!

My grandchildren call me Nanny and my hubs Granddad. Personally I would not want to be called Granny or Grandmother. Nanna is lovely though.

Mine called me Granny when they were young, but now they are older they shorten it to just Gran. I waited till I was 60 to become a granny, so why would I want to be called anything else?

Our DGC call me Nanna as they have grown I'm now Nan.
None of them have other grandparents.
Our DD is in a relationship with a man who has a DD with learning disabilities and she can't understand that my DH is Grandad so she calls him Nanna name.

harrigran Sun 18-Oct-20 09:59:40

I am Grandma, to my face anyway.

Leah50 Sun 18-Oct-20 09:56:35

We're Nanna & Nannu, the Maltese way. The other set are Grandma & Grandpops. We're all happy.

I grew up in Ireland but had Welsh grandparents. I had to call them the Welsh names, Nain and Taide. I found this really embarrassing as kids would think it was funny.

grandMattie Sun 18-Oct-20 09:54:43

My granny wasn’t a nice person, I don’t like Nanny/nana, so I’m grandma.
DH is grandad to the others but DS decided when very young, hardly babbling that he was “Das”, which he remains. His other granddad is “Harrydas”. ?

Sugarpufffairy Sun 18-Oct-20 09:53:22

I am Gran to my own grandchildren.
I am Nonna to my step grandchildren. There are Italian connections.

Nannabumble70 Sun 18-Oct-20 09:52:32

My daughter-in-law said I was too young to be Granny or Grandma so I would be Nanna as well as her mum( she had two Nannas when she was young). However my two year old granddaughter sorted it, I would become Daddy Nanna and her other Nanna would become Mummy Nanna!smile

Kartush Sun 18-Oct-20 09:51:00

My eldest grandson (23yo) calls me grandma, my younger two call me Granny, my greatgrandson (son of the eldest one) used to call me a garbled version of grandma, hes only 2, but hes changed that to marmar in the last month or so.

Bazza Sun 18-Oct-20 09:50:13

My four grandchildren all call me Barry, now Baz or Bazza. No idea why, my daughters found it very amusing when the first one christened me. So it’s stuck, although I do get some odd looks when we’re out and they call me. My husband has always been Pop pops. I wouldn’t care what they call me.

Janeea Sun 18-Oct-20 09:49:25

Hâte Nan or nana, i am not a goat or the dog in Peter Pan! I am just Granny to my 3

HannahLoisLuke Sun 18-Oct-20 09:47:14

I'm Tatty to my three grown up grandchildren and also to their girlfriends/boyfriends. Can't remember why I was called that in the first place but I really like it.

Maggiemaybe Sun 18-Oct-20 09:46:19

Hope springs eternal, Kryptonite! Our 40 year old DD presented us with our fifth gorgeous grandson in lockdown after telling us so many times for so many years that she didn’t want children that we’d believed her. smile

Another proud Nanna here, btw. And I really couldn’t care less if anyone thinks I’m a dog or the hired help (though I do think it’s rude to say so!).

olliebeak Sun 18-Oct-20 09:45:59

I'm 'Narnie' - courtesy of eldest granddaughter. Her version of 'Nanna' at the age of 7mths .................... the other six grandkids have all followed suit.

One the two 20yr old grandsons, has recently decided to call me 'Nan' - and I'm fine with that too.

Love 'em all grin!

foxyrunning Sun 18-Oct-20 09:45:35

Nonna. There are no Italians in the family - I just liked it!

Yellowmellow Sun 18-Oct-20 09:45:33

I personally don't like Grandma or granny. I think it very ageing. I'm Nannie to younger grandchildren or Nan to the older grandchildren plus my name. Different strokes for different folks

Kryptonite Sun 18-Oct-20 09:38:02

DanniRae congratulations! That's wonderful news. Gives me hope for my two daughters!

Lyndylou Sat 17-Oct-20 22:12:15

I'm Nana to my DGS (now 12) and Nana Lynda to my partner's grandchildren. It's looking like I'm going to be Nana Lynda again to my latest DGS (just 4 weeks old) which is fine with me.
