We go to the farm shop and buy unwashed potatoes in a sack which is stored in the garage. Works well. I think supermarket potatoes and carrots are washed and then put into plastic bags - not a good idea.

Yes. We bought some from our local indie veggie shop. They were covered in soil and kept in a cloth bag and seem to be lasting for ages.

Maybe I should try getting them at a market (I'm living in France) rather than a supermarket, and just hope the ones at the market are 'newer' than those from the supermarket.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I keep mine in a mesh drawstring bag under the utility room sink where it’s cold and I don’t seem to have a problem with them. Red ones seem to keep better than whites.

Peel them and put them in the fridge.

My post disappeared!
I think it depends where they’re from and how long they’ve already been in storage. I’ve just bought indoors a 4kg bag from the car boot where they’ve been for 10 days, bought from the local farm shop. All perfect

quizqueenGood good idea to cook and freeze them...

We only get a few potatoes at a time but my weekly plans for meals tend to go out of the window and so tatoes don't get used as often as I plan. So ... I must stick to my plans blush!

Cook them and freeze them. Don't buy more than you need for a week!!!

Lock the cupboard TwinLolly.
Mine go rotten in no time at all these days.

This is getting to the time of year when you buy seed potatoes to chit.

So I guess that is what they want to do. The only thing I can suggest is that you buy little and often.

Help! My potatoes keep walking away.

I've tried almost every trick in the book: keep them out of light (they are in a dark cloth bag in a cupboard, out of their net bag or plastic bag), keep them cool (yes, they are in a cool place), add a bit of kitchen roll (I've been there, tried it including wrapping each tatoe in a piece of kitchen roll), put in an apple with the potatoes, keep away from bananas and onions....

I've tried all of the above suggestions but still the potatoes want to walk away.

Any other suggestions (apart from trying to grow my own ...)?

Thanks in advance. x
