A farmer's wife.
I never thought about being the actual farmer, or where the lambs and calves might end up.

I wanted to be the first woman Prime Minister, but then I grew up.

I would have loved being a doctor or a vet!

I dithered between a probation officer and a policewoman, trained as a nanny and ended up employing one later on!

Thanks all such terrific replies. Maggiemaybe I attended ballet and tap lessons and trod the boards at concerts in our local town hall.

Galaxy and Marydoll I loved adventure books and also saw myself as a bit of a detective. Nearly scared myself to death when I was about ten years old. Pulled back the kitchen curtains to be confronted by a thief staring back at me in the process of stealing my dad’s push bike. I flew out the door after him shouting “stop thief”! He was too fast for me, he didn’t get the bike, but I adverted a serious crime.
Pensionpat I like nothing better than visiting my local library although it looks as though it may be closing permanently with budget cuts.

grandmajet

A show jumper. Does anyone else remember Marion Coakes who won a silver Olympic medal on her pony, Stroller?

Me too grandmajet!

Stroller was so small compared to all the others and flew over the jumps.

All I ever wanted was my own horse but never did

Loved numbers and managed to successfully crunch my way through them in the financial field. No regrets whatsoever.

Marydoll Tue 09-Feb-21 21:13:55

Galaxy, I have my thinking cap on! ?

Galaxy Tue 09-Feb-21 20:55:39

We need a good name Marydoll!

Marydoll Tue 09-Feb-21 20:48:51

Maggiemaybe, I noticed it mentioned on another thread, I hadn't heard of it. I seem to have lost touch these days. Presently I'm reading the latest Donna Leon book, but she too seems to have lost her touch!

It's never too late, Marydoll! Have you read The Thursday Murder Club? You could team up with Galaxy. grin

I wanted to work in a library. When it is safe to do so, I shall be volunteering to help run a local library.

Marydoll Tue 09-Feb-21 20:43:26

I always wanted to be a sleuth, Nancy Drew, Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple, the Secret seven, Famous Five. I still do!

Aww, such lovely stories smile - I can totally picture two little girls high kicking and pirouetting away.

I wanted be everything and changed my mind at least once a fortnight depending on what book I was reading, or which programme had caught my attention on the TV. Whatever the main character was doing, I wanted to be and do that - but only until the next thing caught my imagination.

That followed me into adult life and I've done lots of different things - I manage to last a bit longer than a fortnight now though ( but not much... haha).

An air hostess and yes, you've already guessed it - I dislike flying! grin

avitorl Tue 09-Feb-21 20:37:19

A Journalist until I realised that I would probably be reporting on local weddings and not much else.

Galaxy Tue 09-Feb-21 20:32:44

A detective grin. Way too much famous five, secret seven etc.

Maggiemaybe Tue 09-Feb-21 20:31:43

A ballerina smile, despite the fact that I was a sturdy child blessed with what were described as footballer's legs (cheers, dad!). I had my name down at the nearest ballet school for years, or at least I like to believe I had - the classes were miles away from where I lived and would have been a real pain for my parents to get me to. They did buy me some lovely red ballet shoes, a coffee table adorned with ballet dancers for my bedroom, The Girls' Book of Ballet and an LP of Sleeping Beauty and the Nutcracker Suite, which I practically wore out as I thumped pirouetted around the room. Needless to say, I never made it. grin

What did you want to be when you ‘grew up’? I loved watching Fred Astaire in musical films and Sunday Night at the London Paladium. I was captured by the Tiller Girls, a dancing troupe, so a high kicking dancing girl was my aim. As a young girl I practiced kicking my height endlessly!

No I did not achieve my aim but I still love to dance.
