What did you want to be when you ‘grew up’? I loved watching Fred Astaire in musical films and Sunday Night at the London Paladium. I was captured by the Tiller Girls, a dancing troupe, so a high kicking dancing girl was my aim. As a young girl I practiced kicking my height endlessly!
No I did not achieve my aim but I still love to dance.

, despite the fact that I was a sturdy child blessed with what were described as footballer's legs (cheers, dad!). I had my name down at the nearest ballet school for years, or at least I like to believe I had - the classes were miles away from where I lived and would have been a real pain for my parents to get me to. They did buy me some lovely red ballet shoes, a coffee table adorned with ballet dancers for my bedroom, The Girls' Book of Ballet and an LP of Sleeping Beauty and the Nutcracker Suite, which I practically wore out as I
