Multivits

Hi
Not sure where to post this question.
Does anyone take a multivitamin and mineral, if so could you recommend any please.

I used to take Centrum’s ones for the over 50s...they have less iron in them which you don’t need so much of when you’re older. They have a good range of minerals and are a reputable brand. Slip down easily too. Now I am banned from multivits with any iron in them so take ‘nature’s aid’ multivits with minerals which I buy online via that large well known retailer. They’re UK made which I prefer.
Whether either of them have been doing good is another question!

DH and I take one Sainsbury's "A-Z Multivitamin and Minerals" tablet each morning after breakfast, with my GP's blessing. They come in tubs of 60 or 180 and I think they work out at about 3p each.

i just get whatever is available in Lidl.
have also been taking extra Vitamin D with calcium.
i don't think you can go wrong with any mainstream product, unless you have been advised to avoid/limit some element by a medical person.
some are vastly over-priced. start with your supermarket, or Boots, Superdrug, they will be just as good i reckon, and cheaper.

I take mine separately as I don’t think the Vit D in the multivitamin is as high as recommended so I take Vi C, Vit D, and Vit B12

No I don't take a multi vitamin but do take several specific vitamins which help with my condition such as vitamin b complex, vitamin c, vitamin d3 and vitamin e. I also take Omega 3

I take seven seas multi vitamins with probiotics over 50s . If I don’t take them my hair and nails start to suffer.

i had bowel cancer and now only have half my bowel left, this causes me to have to stay indoors 3/4 days a week as i need to be close to the toilet (or not eat for a few days if i need to go out). i take vit c and d i also take glucosamine and cod liver oil tablets for joint problems, i just wish i could use ibuprofen as that would take the swelling on my joints down.

When I had a stubborn infection in my tooth and had to have several courses of antibiotics my dentist recommended I took a vit b complex and I was very pleased. Really made me feel better

Take the Sainsburys ones like NannaLyn. Depends on your diet but vitamin D is good for bones and suggested as protection against serious Covid - it's the sunshine vitamin and we are not exposed to enough sunshine in the UK. Vitamin C also helps to fight off colds and things especially if you don't eat enough fruit containing it. Children under 5 especially breast fed babies are recommended to be given healthy start vitamins - 5 drops which health visitors are meant to supply. All DGC have had this, older ones get the chewable kind not on NHS.

Perhaps I am being niaive - BUT we should get adequate vitamens from our food. If, for a medical reasons we require extra of any of these (eg Vit D), then this would be prescribed by GP (Adcal is given a lot for this purpose). B12 is another one where GP's may prescribe if a blood test shows we are low in this.

Most vitaments cannot be stored in the body - so taking large doses ofVit C is useless - it just leaves us via our urine.

Overdoses of some Vitaments can be dangerous.

Of course, those companies (many of them) marketing these would come up with all sorts of reasons why we should buy them

I wouldn’t take any,either. I just don’t trust them and think they can do more harm than good unless you have been diagnosed with a deficiency like iron or Vitamin D. A lot of people have got very rich from vulnerable people.

Spot on Franbern it can be dangerous to take vitamins willy nilly.

I take Adcal D3 which is prescribed by my GP because I broke my ankle years ago which was pinned and plated.

Not everyone eats '3 square meals a day ' any more and many don't get the vegetable intake that is needed for vitaman intake. That's why many of us take supplements.

None. The only thing I have to have is a b12 injection every 3 months.
