Sorry, I don’t usually use abbreviations, so I don’t know why I did it there?

Royal family.

Entertaining if you don't take it too seriously

What is an RF thread? Just curious.

I sometimes wonder if I am reading the same Gransnet as gets described in some of these 'state of the boards' threads.

It's not often that I've seen people posting libellous or dangerous things - some of the vaccine stuff was a bit idiotic, but I've seen a lot worse out there. Speculation over court cases happens sometimes, but it is usually pointed out that this is wrong and the posts are taken down.

Posters 'getting the better of others' who then seek revenge is an alien concept to me, and I don't know how others would know if it were happening anyway, as presumably all the vendetta stuff happens off the boards. That sort of comment seems to me akin to speculating about a court case, though - obviously it's not illegal, but it can turn people against posters who have never reported anyone at all, in a Salem Witchtrial sort of way - 'Goody Loudmouth was seen arguing with Goody Vanishedgran just days before she disappeared - burn her!'

I understand that the RF threads can get heated, and tend to assume that all the intrigue and backstabbing happens on those, but I may just be too dim to notice what goes on under my nose. I don't read the RF threads, as I'm not interested in them, other than in passing. I can't imagine falling out with anyone over them though.

There are people on here whose opinions on certain topics are totally opposed to mine, just as in 'real life'. On other topics, however, we can be in agreement and disagree with those who more usually share our views. Again, just as in real life. I don't see politics as signing up to a code of beliefs, so that someone's views on A can predict their views on B. It sometimes works like that, but it's by no means a given.

Anyway, Iam64's leave of absence has run out. It's time she was back amongst us grin.

Yes, me, too, Callistemon.

Bellanonna Mon 05-Jul-21 18:19:01

I agree on both of those comments, Marydoll.

Callistemon Mon 05-Jul-21 16:13:20

glammanana I'm glad someone is in touch with EV in real life.

I hope she'll get a reprieve for good behaviour!

Marydoll Mon 05-Jul-21 14:10:27

Although Jingle and all her aliases could be shocking, I did enjoy her posts. I was sorry to hear she had died.
Another one I miss is Gabriella. She was controversial at times, but she didn't pretend to something she was not.

annsixty Mon 05-Jul-21 13:33:03

The late lamented jingle came back several times under new names after she was banned.
She seemed to stay under the radar until she was outed by posters recognising her and her ( sometimes acerbic) style of posting, when she would be banned again.

nanna8 Mon 05-Jul-21 13:30:44

Tell me about it ! You can ‘be’ in any country in the world if you could be bothered.

Jaxjacky Mon 05-Jul-21 13:09:15

You can also hide your IP address behind a VPN (virtual private network).

Blossoming Mon 05-Jul-21 13:07:36

My IP address isn’t fixed, it’s easy to set up variable IP functions.

nanna8 Mon 05-Jul-21 12:49:04

I’m not sure about this reporting lark . It seems that you can get someone pretty vindictive who will report someone for just having an opinion. The only ones I have ever reported are advertisments and just one other rude person who doesn’t come on here much these days anyway. Maybe she was banned ? I felt welcome here early on, thought you were a nice bunch and some good discussions go on. I don’t agree with quite a few but I do enjoy the feisty ones, they give as good as they get and it is always good to get another viewpoint. Most of my friends and acquaintances agree with my point of view so I need fresh perspectives from you lot!!

*Ann*, You can't come back under a new name, unless you are extremely clever with IT.
They go by your physical address or something or other that I don't understand.

However, I don't think that it's beyond the realms of possibility that Ellan could get a reprieve.
Is anyone in touch with her?

FC I live very close to EV and I wandered around to see if she was OK but she must have been in her garden socialising with her neighbours and couldn't hear me knocking her stray cat was sunning himself on her front garden area, will try again later in the week x

I think that

I was winding you up Fanny grin

Oh! That was good! grin

tickingbird Mon 05-Jul-21 12:04:23

I haven’t seen NellG on here for some time, now I think of it.

I was wondering about this myself a couple of weeks ago.

Shame she’s been banned. As far as I was concerned she was a breath of fresh air. I loved her posts but seeing as she got the better of certain people it was inevitable they’d contrive to get rid of her. Doubt she’s bothered.

JaneJudge Mon 05-Jul-21 11:46:28

which advert? I keep getting beer adverts for the co-op!

It all depends upon what you've been searching for doesn't it?
So they've clearly got the measure of you Jane!

FannyCornforth Mon 05-Jul-21 11:34:02

Jane did you mean to write
'I think that' on the end of your message, or is it just appearing? confused

No need to apologise Galaxy if someone else hadn't started it first, I would have done. You know me! wink

Also, while I'm here, can I just apologise publicly to Chewy please. I was overly suspicious myself, and got the wrong end of the stick. Not for the first time.
I'd ask for my comment to be removed, but don't want to alert the management (who?) to the thread.
So, sorry Chewbacca thanks

People getting banned aren't suffering from a grudge. They've broken the rules of a public internet forum enough times, even when warned about it, that they can't be allowed to keep posting.

GN isn't a human right.

Not true, Alegrias

It has been known for someone could be banned for annoying another poster and not for breaking any known guidelines.

Others seem to do the same with impunity.

I'm not actually convinced Call

Given that people don't seem to realise that what they post is sometimes against guidelines and then rail against the unfairness of it all.

Callistemon Mon 05-Jul-21 11:19:03

It keeps changing, now it's adverts showing size 8/10 women wearing expensive clothes.

JaneJudge Mon 05-Jul-21 11:11:49

which advert? I keep getting beer adverts for the co-op!

Callistemon Mon 05-Jul-21 11:10:43

I hope you can make sense of that, I changed it but the advert still keeps covering the message box no matter what I do.

JaneJudge Mon 05-Jul-21 11:10:43

is everyone's IP address set these days? It used to change didn't it?

if you changed internet provider would your IP address change?

It seems a bit 'weird' to ban posters that contribute to the site. Presumably this is done by other posters complaining about that particular poster? surely you could get someone deleted quite quickly given BJ is is in charge

I think that
