Hi Coolgran I hope you can get a lid replacement, by far the easiest solution.
I also have this teapot, it was a Christmas gift from DS3 a few years ago.
I find it heavy as well but mostly use it downstairs as it does make a good cuppa. I've got a lighter stainless steel teapot for taking upstairs.
Hope you get it sorted.

I agree with trying customer service - I have found them very good.
I also love some of the creative ideas here.
But for an actual repair, this would be my choice (it will stick, where I think Fimo might not)

I found Le Creuset extremely helpful when I needed a replacement handle for a fryer pan. The metal hook inside had corroded, but they replaced the whole handle free of charge.

Thank you everyone for the links for a replacement. Yes, I said the repair would need to be inexpensive but I’d pay for a replacement within reason. Simply because it’s a nice looking kitchen item.

Elspeth45. You are so right. It is heavy to use. It looks good but because of the weight I’d never have bought it myself. For many years previously I had been using my mother’s old Sony teapot (following her death) which is a brilliant pourer but the lid no longer fits perfectly following a bounce off the floor. It’s still in the cupboard under the sink. Dropping the lids seems to be a habit a habit of mine.
The Le Creuset is too heavy for me to use comfortably and after using it for a few months I gave up. It was brought out for use this week because the giver had come for a few days’ visit.
So yes, it is very heavy especially whe full

I have had one, just too heavy for comfort!

I have had to pass on Le Creuset because of the heavy weight. You can pick up bits of LC at TKMaxx or Ebay.

I would second getting in touch with their Customer Service they will send you a new one,my friend dropped the lid from her Romesca and the company sent her a replacement one free of charge.
I saw Gregg Wallace in a programme this week at the Le Creuset factory it was fascinating to watch well worth watching on catch-up.

How do you lift the teapot! Le Creuset is so heavy!!

There is a used one for sale on Ebay. It is for the grand teapot, I don't know what size you need. Alternatively a search shows there is a grey one too.

I would have suggested trying to get replacement but Coolgran said repair needed to be inexpensive.

eSpares.co.uk or on Amazon are excellent I have replaced parts in pan sets mixers processors etc. It's certainly worth a try tell them make of item what's required. You will know straight away if they have a replacement no messing. There is another site I have bought from but I can't remember the name.

SpringyChicken That's just what I was going to suggest ?

I would contact customer service and ask if you could obtain a replacement. The worst they can say is no.

Thank you, I see it comes in colours. That could be funky. I wonder would it stick ok or would it need glued/bonded.

Ooops ….. in the Title of Thread - ‘decide’ should read ‘repair.’

Coolgran65 Fri 27-Aug-21 21:35:54

My title really says it all. I received a nice cream Le Creuset teapot as a gift from my lovely dil. I dropped the lid which bounced and fortunately did not break but there are a couple of large long and shallow chips on it. The chips, without the glaze, show up flat white.

My 14 year old dgs suggested I fill in the chips with clay and paint it maybe paint the lid a funky colour.
It might actually not be a bad idea. What do I use for clay?
Or do I paint it with the chips and paint the lid a different colour - nice character- no one else has one the same. What type of paint.
Or just use it as it is, as in …. Yes, those chips, that was the day it bounced across the kitchen floor. ?.

Any repair would need to be easy to do and inexpensive, and require nothing specialist.

I’m inclined to just use it as it is but would be glad to hear of any ideas. Just in case someone has a quirky idea.
Just had another thought - I could paint a little flower over each chip. What about using nail varnish to paint a very simple flower shape but nail polish might be too thick to get clean lines.
I’d love to hear opinions/ideas. I love to fix things for next to nothing / rustic is ok.

I’ve looked on line and can’t find anywhere to just buy a lid. I don’t mind using it damaged - I call it character, however a repair of sorts might be fun.
