Single or LP?
How much did it cost?
How old were you?
What year was it?

Mine was a 45 of Mark Bolan's 'get it on'. It was 1971 and I was 9 years old. Cost me 50 pence.

As soon as I see all these old songs mentioned, I can hear them again so clearly in my head and I can pin each one down to a particular time or event. Such blasts from the past! smile

Oh he was!
My dad used to say "You'd think he could afford a shirt with all the money he earns."
I'd be furious!

I went to see Tyrannosaurus Rex in concert (before they became T Rex).... Marc Bolan was gorgeous <<swoons at the memory>>

grin

I loved T.Rex

Hold Me Close by David Essex in 1975. Can't remember how much it cost but I only earned £6 a Saturday in Woolworth's at the time so it must have been pennies.

I was thinking about Mark Bolan today as I dropped a rake in the garden and it made exactly the same noise as the opening chord of Twentieth Century Boy. Very rock and roll when I'm gardening me!!

Beach Boys LP for 35 shillings. Think it was Surfin Safari. Took me ages to save up. Must have been about 1967.

'Red Sails in the Sunset' singer: Tab Hunter, 1957. I was 14.

Pop songs catch the flavour of the times. Some of these titles take me back not just the memories but something I can't define.

Casdon Sat 11-Sept-21 20:42:08

‘Let’s Stay Together’ Al Green 1972. I was a Motown fan in my early teens.

Dannyrae - my friend and I used to dance to 'poor me' and 'running bear' ", not by the same singer. I think they were her mothers records.

Running Bear was by Johnny Preston and I really loved it! Thank you for reminding me - I shall listen to it on Youtube smile

I was 17, didn`t even have a record player, but I bought the Woolworths cover version of Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, I think the singer was Paul Rich. I`ve still got the record upstairs, after 61 years. Oh, I had to play it at my friend`s house.

MissAdventure Sat 11-Sept-21 17:14:07

Neatly everyone I've known has a copy of 'Dark side of the moon'.

I have never bought a single. The first album was Atom Heart Mother by Pink Floyd, I am a huge fan. That was around 1970.

I love Pink Floyd!
