Unusually, I recently drove 80 miles for a short break of three days and then drove back again. I had been a little worried but it was fine, except for very heavy rain on the way back.
A better word than 'apologise'?

Today one of my groups ,chat and coffee, resumed. It was nice to get back and catch up but before I left I thought this is a long way to drive just for a chat. It is 12 miles away!
Before lockdown I drove to this town 2 or 3 times a week and thought nothing of it.
Unfortunately we were not allowed in the kitchen which seems a stupid rule as we cleaned up in the main hall and kept social distance etc.
How far are you happy to go for your activities?

Isn’t it wonderful to have our freedom back to go where we want, when we want?
For so long we were limited to just going for walks locally, and although I knew we were lucky here compared to other European countries, I was delighted when we were able to drive somewhere for exercise.
Now all restrictions like that are lifted, it’s great to be spontaneous with days out, childcare commitments permitting!
I would say fifty miles or so is far enough to travel for a day out, and for us that enables us to easily get to the South coast as well as a variety of NT properties.
As far as my legs will take me on my cycle but not that much really all my activities happen in my town unless I go for a city visit or shopping trip I have everything nearby for the most part
I prefer to keep my activities within a half hour drive. Depending what it is though, an hour is okay. 12 miles would be nothing to me.
Rural Cornwall and have to drive everywhere. Nearest bus stop would take me 30 mins to walk to.
We now have a local village with a community hall so I drive 3 miles (7 mins) to classes there. Once a month I travel 18 miles for craft class (30 mins). The latter hasn't started up again - yet!
Really missed the company in these classes.
Having only just been able to fill the tank after 12 days without petrol, we judge any potential trip very carefully given many garages are still closed in this area (SE). We did 15 today with another 15 later to celebrate birthday with dd Feeling extravagant but of course it’s worth it.
Mr Barmey and I travel weekly from just outside Bristol 51 miles to attend a further education class in Pontypridd. We could find a class in Bristol but it would take me the same time and involve s bus which I am not willing to use. Local trips are done by bike
Annual holiday, pre Covid was to Devon, from East Anglia, usually meeting the folk who used to live next door.
Since easing of restrictions, have done one return day trip to Amberley, in Sussex, and another to Hereford, with another planned for about ten days time.
Otherwise tend to be within about a twelve mile radius.
We would like to spend another day in York before the onset of winter and short days; fuel supplies permitting!
I regularly drive 20 miles ( give or take) each way to visit 4 friends. Obviously not so much because of Covid restrictions but thankfully we are beginning to meet up again.
Supermarkets are 5 miles away but maybe only visit once a week.
One craft group is starting again in early October and hopefully enough members will want to resume meetings. I certainly do. Our knitting group have had outdoor meetings mostly locally, but the weather may not be good enough for many more of those. I do a 1hr 45 min drive each way mostly motorway to visit my daughter probably at least once a month.
I’ve always liked driving and I like getting out to meet friends and family even if Mr b prefers the home life.
We've been keeping a lot more local for 18 months. It all depends on where you live and what suits you. I feel it's far too soon to socialise anyway, with Covid rates so high, and waning immunity.
Already, after just a week back, my granddaughter's year are at home, isolating, for ten days - as so many tested positive. Don't assume we're anywhere near 'back to normal' as we're in for a tough winter.
JaneJudge - 'those people' trying to save the planet? What an awful nuisance for you. To hell with our grandchildren's lives - how dare they disrupt your driving!
I travel 6.miles to various clubs in my nearest town.l walk 5 mins to activities in the village so the best of both worlds.
I travel from north London to Dover by train on a regular basis. I have to travel a few miles by bus to meet up with friends as none of them live in my area. I also belong to a craft group that since Covid has been held either in someone’s home or outside. Another craft group has asked us all to do a lateral flow test each time we go, so I will attend that one once the requirement is dropped. Family live a 30 minute bus ride away. Daughter and granddaughter went to Italy to visit family. No problem at all. I will go when there are less restrictions and when my Italian passport arrives. If I didn’t do these little journeys to meet people I would be climbing the walls.
Thanks, JaneJudge
My daughter and I have travelled 150 miles twice to see my elderly sister in a care home.

I usually travel locally - 7-10 mile radius but this weekend I am going from Kent to South Wales
good luck. Lets hope those people aren't disrupting the traffic again
I travel 150 miles to my son if he needs me (which isn't very often
) or 120 miles to see my family....but day to day the furthest I most probably drive is 20-30 miles in one go....
If you enjoy it when you get there do it whilst you can.

It depends what it's for. I've travelled a couple of hundred miles and stayed overnight for a competition with my dog. Usually, a radius of 100 miles is my - flexible - limit.
Although I travel about 15 miles to meet 2 friends one of them thinks I live too far away so I have to meet her at a halfway place.
Sorry, meant to say 'Friends Reunited'.
To see family, I'll travel anywhere but to go for a catch up with friends, 5 miles unless a special occasion. When Schools Reunited was born we all met up in London, old school friends from all over Britain. Before FB was born.
I live in Birmingham and regularly choose to travel about 10 miles to the supermarket and go to a favourite park to walk the dog around the lake before doing the shopping. There are plenty of other supermarkets much closer (new one 5mins walk from home) but I like this one and love the walk around the lake 2 or 3 times a week.
I like to visit my best friend approx 20 miles away, as often as possible.
I also have a son who lives in Hull, so I try to get up there to see him once a month. The journey there and back plus running around for a couple of days usually amounts to around 550 miles.
I love driving, so none of this mileage bothers me in the slightest.
I think I may well travel some distance but unfortunately people seem to have given up on me a long time ago.

I had a Canadian friend who couldn't get over how insular we are. In Canada she would think nothing of a 100mile plus to go to a party or visit friends.
We've travelled across the country for a party with no problem. When we lived in Germany 100km never seemed as far as 65miles!
