Some posters seem to be very intolerant of the views of others lately.

As an example,
I was so upset only a day or so ago about a pile on that I asked GNHQ to have ALL my comments on a thread deleted.
I was wrongly judged for an innocent follow on comment about the OP's spelling, (ok it was a serious thread), when I was the one actually providing an explantation for other posters. I was being judged as being uncaring and insensitive which is totally wrong.
I am not at all judgmental. I am easy going and unfussy but obviously there are those who like to pick posts apart and I guess that is just how they are.
However, there was a recent delightful thread about people's home towns which whether north or south, coastal or inner city, attracted no judgmental comments at all, in what could have been a potentially judgmental discussion.
I'm not sure about the reference to the Strictly comment though yes, it was very much moving away from the subject of dance itself.

I think it is important to have other people's views on things. That's one of the reasons I like GN as we are all very different on here.
I have learned a lot by reading opinions of other GNs. I don't always agree but it can be thought provoking to get other ideas.

I thought you meant it in a wider sense. For example I would judge a woman in the park who is on the phone and letting her kids run riot or her dog pooing and ignoring it. I would probably judge it would not be wise to confront her.
I know a couple of decent people who buy the Sun and the Mail for sports and puzzles. I don't assume they are racists.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. It isn't necessary to be rude because someone's opinion differs to your own and it only weakens your argument if you are.

I enjoy hearing the opinions of others, even some extreme ones.
I do object to opinion being expressed as fact particularly the sort that instills fear or panic in others.

We had a friend who would throw a metaphorical grenade into a group then sit back and wait for the fallout.

He died before the internet really got going but I bet he'd have enjoyed doing just that online.

I wonder what the ‘correct’ newspapers are? One which concurs with the views of a poster, and thus makes all other newspapers and the readers of them beyond the pale I suppose.
Maybe if you are a person who rushes to judge others this thread may make you take a step back.

I genuinely thought that asking questions of other posters in order to improve one's understanding of different opinions was not only the point of Gransnet, but one of the ways to inform oneself generally in life.

All opinions are valid, but if we voice them we invite question and discussion and also present people with the opportunity to agree, disagree or not give a damn.

I can be quite opinionated on certain issues no doubt about that. However I don’t just have tolerance towards people of the same opinion as me. We all have free will unless controlled by others so everyone’s opinion is different based on their own life experience.
