Why do my saucepan handles keep coming loose?

Old saucepans and my latest Judge ones have handles that work loose. I seem to be constantly tightening them with my screwdriver. It’s dangerous not to do it, but why oh way do they work loose?

Dunno but when you find out let me know. I've just tightened up the screws on all of mine.....again.

Not a problem I've experienced but was wondering if you use a dishwasher and that was perhaps a contributing factor?

MissAdventure Tue 11-Jan-22 20:45:59

I think a slightly thicker screw might stay put.

Perhaps a washer on the screw would help.

How about a dab of superglue on the sides of the screw before you tighten it?

My judge saucepans are seven years old and have never experienced that problem. Maybe it is dishwasher because I don’t have one..?‍♀️

I’ve had the same problem with Judges pans and never put them in the dishwasher. I’ve since bought new pans and opted for Stellar. Although they are more expensive they seem much better and don’t have screws. They also come with a lifetime guarantee.

I have a set of Prestige pans which were a wedding present in 1970, used constantly and handles have never come loose.

Ah! beware the Lifetime guarantee.
I bought Prestige pans, with copper bottoms.
One of the bases became detached, very quickly, and that was replaced; but when something else happened and I tried to claim, I was told that the company had been taken over, and the guarantee was now useless.

Yes I think they were taken over. My pans don’t have copper bottoms, they’re just good old stainless steel and still going strong after over 50 years.

25Avalon, time for new ones? please don't risk scalding yourself!

25Avalon Wed 12-Jan-22 11:50:52

Hetty58 they are new ones! well 3 years old. I bought them because the handles kept getting loose on the old ones. I check and tighten with the screwdriver before using. I do put them in the dishwasher but I don’t really see why that causes it. Another one of life’s little mysteries.

Ali08 Wed 26-Jan-22 05:31:25

Glue them!! Better that than a nasty accident!

MissAdventure Wed 26-Jan-22 07:15:32

I'd want my money back if I'd paid a fair bit.
They aren't fit for purpose.

Because many modern products are not built to last, thus encouraging more purchases for replacement and more waste of resources.

I have some stainless steel pans that work as well as they did when new. I also have a modern non-stick wok type pan with lid and guess what? The handle is wobbly and I’ll have to replace it soon ‘cos it’s not very safe!

You can buy thread (which looks like dental floss ) to wrap around the threads of screws. It makes a tighter fit. You might even try dental floss itself.
