There are so many jobs that involve wearing a uniform, but I've never been issued with one. Probably because I'm office based so just expected to be presentable. What uniforms have GNs worn over the years? I think the Armed Forces are very smart.
School uniform then nurse uniform then scrubs when I worked in theatres for over 40 years. Needed smart clothes for meetings but found more recognition of knowledge and skills and position when attending meetings in scrubs. (Changed before and after meetings of course!) only problem was developing your own ‘style’ when in mufti!
Wore my nurses uniform with pride. All very old fashioned now with cuffs and starched aprons. I was so pleased to get my pale blue staff nurses uniform when I passed my finals
Wore uniform when working as receptionist in NHS it was quite smart and made it a lot easier and quicker getting ready for work , not having to worry about what shall I wear today.
School uniform, Brownies, Girl Guides, Rangers, traditional nursing uniform- starched collar and cuffs, apron and cap, grey striped dress as student then blue as staff nurse and navy as sister. Student midwife was blue dress then a white dress when you qualified as a midwife. Various nurses uniforms as staff nurse, sister, District Nurse then smart suit in management role. None since I retired!
I never wore a school uniform, hated not having one as my Mum always made me wear sensible clothes and we hadn't much money so I couldn't keep up with fashion and stood out.
Been wearing greens for the past 12 years as a paramedic, wearing the green, living the dream as we say. It's great not to have to think what to wear.
Yes, as a nurse, and I was so very proud. I loved wearing the heavy cloak, which was part of our uniform at the time. We had a cap that had to be very carefully pleated each time it was laundered.
This thread is reminding me of a brilliant photo of my mother in law taken when she was 9 months pregnant and wearing her nurses uniform. She is the only woman I have ever seen completely fill a cape!!
Matron told me I had to wear a white coat instead of my uniform when my belt started getting higher and higher Coastpath I was very disappointed as I has only just got my staff nurse blues.
I took an evening class in phycology. He gave us a general questionaire to fill out mainly on our views in life from which he then guessed, mostly correctly , what professions we were involved in or had been . For mine he asked if I had been a policewoman or a soldier, close , it was the WRAF Interesting though
jaylucy - sounds like you worked for Specsavers. I did too - hated the button through blouses which would pop open as you were leaning close to a patient! Loved the most recent tops in pink and navy and the long scarves that I used to think concealed my stomach! I'm retired now and still miss working for them even though they really made us work hard.
I wore a uniform working as a lifeguard. I wore a tiny pleated blue skirt and a collared T-shirt with lifeguard printed on it and a sweatshirt if needed. When I walked around the pool I used to spot men trying to look up my skirt. This was over 30 years ago.
I was going to say no, then I remembered wearing a polo shirt with logo and black trousers when I worked in a children's nursery. There was also a red sweat shirt which I hated as I don't suit red at all.
