There are so many jobs that involve wearing a uniform, but I've never been issued with one. Probably because I'm office based so just expected to be presentable. What uniforms have GNs worn over the years? I think the Armed Forces are very smart.

I've never worn one while working but I have one for my voluntary job. I do like it.

I was a nurse and wearing a uniform was lovely - you didn't have to think about it and they were laundered for us. That was until I went into community nursing and we had to do our own but got a £3 a month allowance for washing powder. Once I moved up the ladder I found suits were a kind of uniform but it did become a bit of a fashion show for some!

Never, and I'd hate it.

Yes when I worked in an opticians and it changed every 3 years or so back then - from charcoal trousers / skirt and jacket, with a lovely lilac polyester top that was a tunic and quite nice to wear to a lilac blouse that unless you wore something underneath it, was see through in the shop lights!
Then it was a deep purpley /navy trousers. skirt/ dress with a selection of tops made out of jersey that were really nice to wear.
Saved the bother of what to wear each day and all were thankfully easy to wash and dry.

I've never had an official uniform to wear.
I still smile though when I think of the one occasion I was passed a sweatshirt brightly coloured with a huge emblem, which was the same as the children's I was taking on a visit.
It was two sizes too small and one of my colleagues said "Busty Brenda the Sweatshirt extender".it was off in a second and all the others did too.blush

I wore my London Ambulance uniform for 20+ yrs with pride. I have to say my issued RAF blue colour uniform with peaked cap bore no resemblance whatsoever to my green hi-viz uniform that I was wearing when I retired.

I wore a uniform all my working life. Saturday job with Woolworths when I was 16, I had a green overall. I wore a similar overall in the grocery shop owned by my DH's family.
I then went on to nurse training and wore a nurses uniform. I continued as a nurse for the rest of my career.

Such a shame that the Armed Forces are no longer seen in public, proudly wearing their uniforms - apart of course at ceremonial occasions.

School uniform. Ungraciously, and drove the Head mistress mad because I had perfected the art of wearing my uniform so that it obeyed the letter of the law but not the spirit.

I have worn uniforms including school ones and didn’t mind but I absolutely loath and detest the both the look and feel of neck ties. Just wrong on anyone with breasts imo- of course?

I spent five years in Women's Royal Air Force in the sixties. Very proud of my smart uniform. Only thing I disliked was the Heavy "Greatcoat" we wore when it was winter.
It was made of wool and when it rained - it became very heavy.!!
Nowadays the girls wear lightweight waterproof coats.

many varieties of Occupational Therapy uniform but when I moved jobs I was glad to be rid of it.

Only a school uniform. I’d have liked to wear one for work for 2 reasons. No messing about in the morning trying to decide what to wear, but mainly because the folk I dealt with often took no notice of my advice, but took it on when told the same thing by their GP or Nurse. It could be quite frustrating.

I had to wear smart business dress when I worked for Lloyds, many years ago, which I always interpreted as suits. Nice, since we bought our own. But then they went to uniforms which I hated. Nylon blouses. Yuck.

As a teacher, it was always just smart dress code. I thought women did better with that than men, because men had to wear suits and I could wear smart but very comfy jersey dresses.

The only one I wore apart from school, was when I had a temporary Christmas job in Marks 22 years ago. Skirt, blouse and little jacket. Otherwise always wore skirts and dresses.

Yes, progressed from school to nurse uniform 51 years ago. Starting in the current style worn in Call The Midwife. Pale blue dress, starched apron and cap. Also a full length heavy black cape with red lined hood for outdoors in hospital grounds. Mid 70s the uniforms were modernised to plain white tunic dress and cap. Then 80s changed again to tunic and trousers.

I wore a uniform for working on the Aramis counter at Debenhams. It was a pale brown colour. I felt smart but hated the job so only lasted six months.

School uniform, girls high school, very strict dress code.
Years 1 and 2 - grey tunic , white shirt, school tie, grey cardigan.
Yrs 3 and 4 - grey skirt, white shirt, school tie, grey cardigan.
Yr 5 - as above, but with jumper instead of cardigan.
Lower and Upper Sixth - grey skirt, open neck gingham blouse ( pink or blue), black cardi or jumper.
I quite liked the uniform. We had a summer uniform too - blue and white spotted dresses with full skirts and side pockets!

In my last job before I retired ( doctor's surgery, admin/reception), the uniform changed about every 3 years. Usually navy/black skirt/trousers, with a smart blouse.

Only trouble was, the same styles don't suit everyone, and we ladies of a somewhat more generous frame couldn't wear the unforgiving tight little numbers that the younger, slimmer ones preferred. We generally found a compromise that everyone could live with!

I found a uniform made getting dressed for work really easy, one less thing to worry about.

Take care xx

ps - my dad was in the RAF, always thought he looked so smart in his dress uniform.

School uniform then in working life a police uniform for ten years.

I wore a white nurse uniform when I was a dental nurse, then a navy blue one with a white belt in another job.
I always found it handy not having to think what to wear.

Also, when I wore the blue one with a belt, early one morning as I walked to work, someone yelled "Ooòoòh! Matron!" in a Kenneth Williams voice.
It made my day. smile

Same as you gnw. I don’t know anyone who ever liked those awful white dresses. Blue dress uniforms, calf length navy wool cloak with scarlet lining was so much smarter.

Due to the nature of my job, wearing mufti was out of the question obviously. Luckily, I didn’t hate wearing my uniform.

Wearing a gown for dinner every night in university hall of residence. Is that a kind of uniform ?
