As harrigan says, there is actually no real test for what is called IBS - those that receive this diagnosis are actually having Doctors saying they have no idea what is causing the problems.

However, nasty, painful conditions such as Ulcerative Colitus, or Crohns can develop, and can be treated. Always get some proper tests carried out with any unusual pains.

If you are experiencing abdominal pain you should seek reassurance from a GP.
I don't want to frighten you but I had just had a negative bowel screening when I was diagnosed with bowel cancer.
IBS is the diagnosis when everything else has been eliminated as there is no definitive test for it.

Nana56, I have recently had a bout of extreme pain in my groin, spreading around to the rear of my upper leg, radiating down to my knee. After xray showed no arthritis, had to see a physio. He examined me and declared I was suffering from Femoral Acetabular Impingement. Never heard of it before, but more common in women in their 60's, who are active. Just thought I would put this comment on in case it helps you. The pain was extreme, and it has taken 5 -6 weeks for it to settle down. Was recommended excercices to alleviate symptoms, but they really made no difference, it just settled down of its own accord.
Wishing you well, Nana

I’m an IBS sufferer too Nana56 but haven’t experienced what you’re describing. Stress does of course make everything worse but I suggest that you consult your GP. Your bowel screening may be up to date but there are a good many other conditions that could be causing the pain. Hope you get it sorted quickly.

I was diagnosed with IBS many years ago and have been fortunate to have had no trouble for years.
Recently I have been experiencing pain , lower right abdomen which seems to be worse when I exercise.
I have had a lot of stress over the last year or so.
Has anyone else had this ? I would add that I am up to date with my bowel cancer screening etc.
Thanks for reading x
