mokryna, highlanddreams gave the correct name - I should have said Lorne sausage.
It is a wee bit like a burger and part of a traditional Full Scottish Breakfast. Beef or pork, sometimes a mixture of the two are mixed together with seasoning and rusk and packed tightly into a tin like a loaf tin. There is no casing involved. It is removed from the tin and sliced like a loaf then fried, usually with bacon, black pudding, fruit pudding etc. - well it was in the days before we were told that kind of breakfast is not good in terms of cholesterol. It does make a popular filling in a scotch breakfast roll especially with fried onions.

Grant's of Speyside also do an excellent Stornoway-style black pudding. I'm licking my lips at the thought of it, even as I type this...

It's not so much of a thing here in the North-East, but there are good butchers in Glasgow, and judging by link sausages here, I would think that tiredoldwoman is right about that. I just wanted to put in a word for Stornoway black pudding, which IMO is delicious.

Stornaway black pudding is what I always buy. I want to get a similarly good square sausage. I expect I was put off by being served an inferior product a long time ago.

Talking about square sausage, steak, onion Lorne is even better!

I meant to say, they do deliver, but I don't know how far. I live six miles away, but they deliver to me.

Espee, my mother used this butcher and so do I. I think it has been going for at least fifty years and they still have their own farm.

They used to shrink wrap packages for people going abroad, but I don't know if they still do that.
If you are looking for really good potato scones, the ones from the bakery, a few doors down, are my favourite. (Apart from my own home made ones, of course!)

I agree, any decent butcher in Glasgow will sell square sausage and decent black pudding also.

Square sausage is something I really miss along with tablet.

The winning butcher for square sausage in the Scotland this year was declared as A I Butchers from Culloden. As suggested above if you Google "Scottish square sausage butchers in Glasgow" you will be able to find one near you.

Definitely make sure you get Charlie Barley's (Stornoway) black pudding.

I remember being sent out to buy 'a pound of slice' - ie sliced sausage. That was a big family favourite which I enjoyed as much as anyone. Even though I've been veggie for forty years, I can still remember relishing the aroma of the sausage frying.

if you want best quality then it'll need to be from a Scottish butcher & I think they all make it, so you shouldn't have any problem finding some. You could google Lorne sausage & see if any locations near you come up in the search.
