What is her attitude about it? Can one talk to her / reason with her / would she accept an inability to drive safely?

She had an appt at the memory clinic but forgot to go. She has another in a couple of weeks.

I obviously didn't make myself clear in my op. What happens to her keys now? She won't be banned because of dementia for a while

The next step is to consult a doctor:

You may find this helpful:

and this:

Follow the related content link at the side to find out more about assessing fitness to drive.

I would think the next stage would be to get a formal diagnosis of dementia? The GP or hospital consultant may then advise re driving?

Quite bluebelle. That wasn't my question.

Although having dementia isn't automatically a reason to stop people driving. And, she hasn't actually had a diagnosis yet.

And that is why I asked if anyone knew what the next step was. No-one wants her driving again so we want to know what happens next so her family can be ready.

I hid the keys in my dressing gown pocket , he had lost the spare long before , poor man thought he had lost the main key too but he wasn’t safe

Well she shouldn’t be allowed to drive with dementia should she ? I think the police have acted correctly and her family must act responsibly and make sure she stays off the road before she kills someone if her mind wanders

Our village taxi driver told me once that a lady in the village asked him to store her mother’s car in his garage for a while. She couldn’t accept she wasn’t safe on the road anymore. After a while the mum forgot all about the car.

Not me!! My lovely sister in law has dementia (as yet undiagnosed officially) and poor driving had been reported to the police.

It sounds as though the police handled it really well and were very kind to her, called her daughter to tell her and gave her keys to a responsible neighbour.

But, is she banned from driving? Can she demand her car keys and drive.

The police suggested that my niece disconnect the battery which she might do..

Anyone have any knowledge or experience please?
