What do you think to Helen Mirren’s hair and make-up sported this week at the Cannes Film Festival? I normally think that HM is beautifully groomed and doesn’t look her age, yet has that edgy styling which helps her look younger and sassier. I think she went overboard at the recent film festival though. It makes her look older and rather - dare I say it - witchy. Nil points from me!

I seem to remember someone writing about visiting the hairdresser and saying hello to a small wizened old lady only to realise it was JC minus all the make up and wigs.
If she hasn't had surgery I suspect that both her and HM have had a go with fillers!

BlueSky Sun 29-May-22 19:45:16

Most of us wouldn’t be a pretty sight first thing in the morning GSM! wink

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 29-May-22 19:42:13

I don't believe JC has never had surgery. I would like to see her without makeup and wigs. Or then again, perhaps I wouldn't!

Kate1949 Sun 29-May-22 19:36:58

I don't know BlueSky. She says she's never had surgery and does her own hair and make up. Somehow I believe her. I know she has hair pieces and wigs bit still she looks amazing.

BlueSky Sun 29-May-22 19:22:08

You are right Kate Joan Collins does look amazing! I’ve been trying to find faults and flaws but nothing. How does she do it? shock

Kate1949 Sun 29-May-22 18:09:46

I think Joan Collins looks fabulous. This was last year when she was 88.

Callistemon21 Sun 29-May-22 17:34:32

Yes, I saw Joan on HIGNFY and she looked wonderful.
Even without a silver dress.
I didn't realise that Delia is 80 - she looks good too, as does Prue.

Too much makeup, hair scrawped back just does nothing for Helen, who normally looks nothing like that.

Chestnut Sun 29-May-22 17:31:21

Sorry, Monday night. I can't give an opinion on Joan until at least Tuesday!

Chestnut Sun 29-May-22 17:30:05

This thread was asking us what we thought of Helen's look and we have replied and given our opinion. We weren't asked here about Joan, and maybe lots of people didn't see Joan or haven't yet watched it like me. I am recording 'Have I Got a Bit More News for You' tonight so can't give an opinion on her yet.

FannyCornforth Sun 29-May-22 16:41:29

Joan is a total fox, ditto Prue.
Delia looks absolutely gorgeous too ?

Esspee Sun 29-May-22 16:35:30

How many of us will look as good as that at 89?

Esspee Sun 29-May-22 16:34:28

.

Joseanne Sun 29-May-22 16:28:48

That's the power of a photographEsspee. The other thread has no image, which makes it difficult to comment.

Esspee Sun 29-May-22 16:20:15

I find it very interesting that a thread criticising Helen Mirren’s appearance on Friday attracts so many more comments than a thread admiring the amazing appearance of the 89 year old Joan Bakewell on Have I Got News For You, also on Friday.

Says a lot about gransnetters I am sad to say.

Allsorts Sun 29-May-22 15:59:38

I’m afraid it’s a definite ?from me, not a Helen Mirren fan though.

Dinahmo Sun 29-May-22 15:55:54

Lovely dress. Makeup and hair a bit extreme but so what? She looks different every time one sees photos of her. At least she's not trying to emulate the younger stars by exposing large areas of flesh. She does have the figure to carry that dress off.

She is able to dance in those shoes. There are several photos of her and Andie MacDowell dancing along the red carpet at Cannes.

Callistemon21 Sun 29-May-22 15:33:50

From a 5ft garden gnome.?

Can't wait to see you on the red carpet, Party4
?

BlueSky Sun 29-May-22 12:36:22

Party4 yes but if we didn’t comment on anything there would be no GN! Another garden gnome here! grin

Party4 Sun 29-May-22 08:00:51

Usually like HM and think she carries her years well.
Do not like the new look very unflattering and with her hair pulled back emphasises and highlights very pointy witch like features.BUT
everyone should be able to dress for themselves.Who are we to comment on people's style.
From a 5ft garden gnome.?

CanadianGran Sun 29-May-22 03:12:10

I don't like the look, and think the pulled back hair isn't flattering.

I think when you have tons of events to go to, with no budget, a stylist, make up artist and hair dresser, going the safe route all the time would be boring.

So good on her for trying something different, even though most of us don't like it. She looks confident and having fun, so why not?

BlueSky Sat 28-May-22 23:32:19

Yes definitely the pointy ears and pulled back hair make her look like an alien! And yes the black shoes ...? Usually she looks OK, though not as good as Joanna Lumley in my opinion.

Kalu Sat 28-May-22 23:12:57

I thought it was Donatella Versace..Oops!

I really didn’t recognise her and have seen her in some fabulous outfits but this is a? from me. Not that she would care what I think.

Deedaa Sat 28-May-22 23:05:59

I don't think the pulled back hair is doing her any favours and I don't like the high neck on the dress. Oh and the black shoes are awful - she surely must have a nice pair of silver sandals in her wardrobe.

Serendipity22 Sat 28-May-22 22:56:17

Hmmm, err, its a NO from me. She looks like she just stepped off the set of Starwars. Sorry Helen but its a bit toooo alien'ish for me ( if there is such a word in the English language!)hmm

Urmstongran Sat 28-May-22 21:41:10

She looked weird. Maybe she wanted to?
She must have looked in a mirror and been happy to walk through the door anyway ... ‘yep, good to go girl’.
She’s 76.
Maybe she was fed up of looking amazing for her age (like in the red bikini she wore on the beach a couple of years ago).
