Does anyone have experience of a c section.?
My daughter is due to have one tomorrow. She seems OK, but I feel anxious for her.

Nana56 Mon 01-Aug-22 19:38:42

Thank you for all the kind messages. Seemed like a long anxious wait but all was fine. A beautiful grandmother 7 lbs 13oz. Mother and baby doing well.
We had a lovely day looking after her daughter. What a treat.smile

DD1 had a c-section as the baby was found to be breech at the last minute. All went well and she went on to have two more babies naturally.

DD2 had a c-section as she had pre-eclampsia, both mother and baby were fine. She too has had another naturally.

A c-section takes a bit longer to recover from but it is being done for the right reasons.

I'm sure all will be well with your daughter tomorrow. Lots of love to her, you and the beautiful new baby xxx

I had the privilege to be with my daughter as she had a caesarean for the birth of her twins. I was the first to hold my grandson while his sister was born. It was amazing. She had no problems during or after and made a good recovery.

My daughter has had two c . sections on medical advice. she recovered quickly and all was well. Please don't worry ! Today's the day - she will be fine. Do keep us posted !!

Nannagarra Sun 31-Jul-22 23:57:38

As my first baby was breech, I had an elective c section.
At 57 I had a total hysterectomy and was amazed by how everything is much better now - self-administered morphine, encouragement to be out of bed and on the move, speedy discharge as other have said.
For a couple of days changing position from being upright to lying down will be easier with another’s steadying hand but she’ll very quickly be on the mend. She shouldn’t lift anything heavy for a while.
Your daughter will be fine. Please don’t worry.

DD had one with her twins and DiL has had 4 . They both recovered quickly but had plenty of help and no necessity to drive. DiL breastfed all of hers into their second year. An added bonus was that she was able to choose which date each child could be born on (within reason) and so avoided weekends when staffing numbers are often lower.

Having had experience in the family now both of vaginal births that went badly wrong, and of elective C sections, I’d be more worried tbh if I had a daughter due to give birth “naturally”.

Congratulations on the new baby, Nana56. Try not to worry, sleep well!

I had an emergency C-section with my first and a high forceps delivery with my second. I recovered much quicker from the C-section.

PaperMonster Sun 31-Jul-22 22:49:31

I had a C-section and recovered very quickly. I had a belly binder which seemed to speed healing up and I was out and about with baby in a sling within the week.

Yammy Sun 31-Jul-22 22:33:32

Try not to worry. I had two the first an emergency or both baby and I would have died. I had to have a blood transfusion and was kept in hospital 10 days.
After being told I would not need another I went ahead and had one shortly afterwards. At five months I was offered an epidural section I turned it down as I did not want to feel different about them and had a General.
The second went very smoothly first on the list and regained consciousness very quickly, the staff tried to serve me coffee and cake until I told them I had just come up from theatre and maybe not.
I managed to feed both myself with the help of lots of cushions.
My main problem was standing up. When I had mine we were kept in hospital for over a week.
DD had an emergency epidural section and was home within a few days not very mobile but soon got so.
best of luck to all the family.

My DiL has just had her second caesarian section. Both were necessary, for different reasons.

The first time, she was home after 2 days, and this time after 1.

She has recovered well both times, though not surprisingly, having undergone an operation, she has needed more rest for several weeks than would probably have been needed after a natural birth.

She has been told not to drive until she she is given the all-clear at six weeks. If she were to ignore that instruction, her insurance would be invalid

As your daughter is a pre planned C section her recovery should hopefully be easier than if she had a long labour then an emergency . I had one 40 years ago and my daughter last year. They usually do them with a spinal block (epidural) these days which means she will be sedated but awake to see her baby straight away which is much nicer for them all. Good luck to everyone ??

pinkprincess Sun 31-Jul-22 21:04:36

Both of my children were born by emergency caesarean section after I had developed life threatening complications in labour.Without them neither myself nor my two sons would be here today. My five grandchildren and two great grandchildren would not have even existed.
One of my grandchildren who was a premature baby was also born by emergency caesarean section. She was very ill when born but is now a healthy 26 year old.
Both of mine were under general anaesthetic but that was routine in those days.I never saw either until they were two days old as they had breathing difficulties and I was not too well either but times have changed a lot since then. The breathing problems were due to the complications in labour which were the cause of the emergency births.
My DIL had hers under epidural and had a quick recovery but my DGD being a tiny premature baby had to remain in hospital till she was five weeks old.
All the best to your daughter. Please keep us updated
