Do any of you remember a film where a thief is lowered from the ceiling to steal a priceless gem as the floor is alarmed ?

Is the one with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones called Entrapment ?

Aveline Wed 14-Sept-22 13:58:30

The Pink Panther?

Norah Wed 14-Sept-22 13:59:22

I think it's a Tom Cruise film. Have a look to his films.

Norah Wed 14-Sept-22 14:01:21

Mission Impossible (1996)???

Mizuna Wed 14-Sept-22 14:01:54

It may be The Return of The Pink Panther.

Mizuna Wed 14-Sept-22 14:02:30

Or Oceans 12.

Are you thinking of Topkapi? Museum in Istanbul.
Eric Ambler story.
Peter Ustinov, Melina Mercouri, Robert Morley
Was Giles Segal the thief?
Typical 60s caper. I loved it

I was just about to say that I'm no film buff, but there was a Father Ted episode where a thief lowers himself down on a fishing rod. grin

that was a really good film wasn't it?
I would love to see the Topkapi museum/palace.

Callistemon21 Wed 14-Sept-22 15:19:47

Yes, Topkapi

I was also thinking of the chandelier in Only Fools and Horses ?

JackyB Wed 14-Sept-22 15:32:23

I haven't seen (or I don't remember Topkapi) but that scene that Norah mentioned in Mission Impossible is unforgettable. It only needed a drip of sweat to set the alarm off and it was absolutely nailbiting. I forget what he was stealing though!

NanKate Wed 14-Sept-22 18:19:10

Thanks I’ll look up these other suggestions.

MagicWand Wed 14-Sept-22 18:22:05

MissAdventure Wed 14-Sept-22 18:37:03

Excellent film.

I've had a look round the Topkapi Palace. My Dad worked at the British Embassy in Ankara for a couple of years in the late '70s. My sister and I had a holiday with them and spent a couple of days in Istanbul. It truly is a beautiful place.

As said previously Topkapi
