My mother had to do this. She set up an iPad and watched shows. Audible sounds like a great idea. I think visits would be great too. Some company to break up the monotony.

I would be careful about buying items which smell nice because that could start her off sneezing.

Instead of chocolates, would she not be better off with practical help?

I agree with the audio books but check she doesn’t already have it,

I know it sounds boring, but I feel her main problem will be boredom, and lonely, visits for a chat and a laugh. I assume she has someone to care for her, but I know my mum got a lot from a good friend to brush her hair when she couldn’t or file her nails, it’s those little things that make you feel human, and much more valued than chocolates

I would second (or third) an Audible subscription. I had several operations for a detached retina. Each time I had to posture for fifty minutes each hour or lie facedown for two weeks just as your friend has to. Audio books were a godsend when I couldn't move or do anything else.

Apparently it is necessary after some retinal surgery. You can buy special pillows, mirrors and other equipment . If you google it there is advice.

... face-sized ...

dragonfly I can't help but wonder - how does one lie face down for two weeks? Will she have one of those beds with a hole in for her face, like a massage bed? Even when I occasionally sleep on my stomach, my head is still turned to one side!

As for what to buy her, what about a face-sizer mirror (on a stand) that can be angled.

Audible books from Amazon

A set of silicone drinking straws, a few pretty glasses and some tasty and unusual cordials/syrups juices?

Does she like nice scents, either room scents or maybe face/hand cream that smell nice?

Amazon Echo and a subscription to Audible?
That’s what I would want!

A friend has had an operation on her eye and needs to lie face down for at least 2 weeks.
A group of us would like to send her something but we are not sure what. Flowers cannot be seen and another group are sending chocolates.
Any ideas?
