Support stockings for a DVT?

It sounds as if you have lymphoedema in the leg because of the lymphoma, which is different from the usual swelling people get from veins etc. Your surgery should have a lymphoedema specialist nurse contact or google one in your area. Lympoedema stockings and bandages are applied differently to the usual support stockings. There is usually a nurse attached to breast cancer centres because swelling can happen in the arm if you have underarm lymph nodes removed. Before any kind of support stockings are applied you need a doppler test to check the venous circulation in your legs. I used to do this all the time before I retired and had contact with the specialist lymphoedema service in my area.

Thanks for your replies, but I’m still not convinced one way or another. Decisions………..

Well to confuse you even more, MissOops is 2 weeks post op on her knee and because her leg is still quite swollen the hospital have removed her compression sock on that leg and replaced it with a bandage type, it’s fairly tight but only goes from shin to thigh.
The other leg still has to have a compression sock for another 4 weeks, im a bit concerned too.

She had to have some Lymph glands removed when she had Cancer so maybe that’s why?

I would go by what your Oncologist tells you.

Would probably take doctors advice over the nurses but would definitely clarify this as soon as possible. Good luck.

DH has had 3 DVTs and wears support stockings permanently.

Hi. Hoping someone who has been or going through the same experience may be able to shed some pointers in the right direction! Basically, four and a half months ago, I had a dvt which is sited deep within my lower stomach / groin area, which in turn, my left leg swelled up to 3 times it’s normal size. (All due to me having lymphoma). I’m on blood thinners which has helped tremendously, but leg is still swollen and uncomfortable. Now the number one question…My oncologist has told me that I should definitely be wearing compressed stockings, but two nurses at my doctors surgery have said definitely no, the complete opposite, saying it will restrict the blood supply. What to do, and who’s advice should I listen to, as views are very conflicting. I’ve also googled it hoping to shed some light, but different sites tell different stories! Hoping someone who has been through it themselves may have some advice to put my mind at rest.
