Bare feet - fine or yuk?

Another one here with ugly feet, huge bunions on each foot. I do wear flip flop type sandals in summer with bare feet but I search for a type that cover the bunions and they're usually very difficult to find. Always dread going into other people's houses and having to take off my shoes.

Just depends on the feet, really.

I love being barefoot. My feet have not changed, are in excellent condition, nails well kept, - so I do not feel embarrassed about them. If skin is dry and broken, nails in a state, etc, then I believe it is best to cover up in public and would expect anyone to do so, even in their own home when having visitors.

As a sufferer from plantar fasciitis bare feet are a no no. If I was expecting dinner guests I would certainly wear something on my feet !

I don’t mind other people’s feet. I can’t walk bare footed as I have a drop foot or what the Greeks call a fish foot that makes walking on a flat surface, bare footed, almost impossible. Besides that my drop foot looks like something from another planet so I wouldn’t inflict the sight of it on others. ( My other foot is very pretty).

I am really fortunate to have great feet in my 70s. I have actually been complimented on them a number of times. Less fortunate are our next door neighbours' feet. Both are disgusting needing tin snips to trim their yellow horn like nails and one insists on wearing flip flops virtually all year. Yuk!

Bare feet make me heave,as do ears.

I'm often barefoot so I have no problem with others being so. I also don't have any hang ups about people putting their feet up on a chair, sofa, pouffe or whatever - in fact, I often suggest it as I love seeing guests happy & relaxed in my home.

I like four pairs of feet - DS, DD, DGS and DGD. Mine are ok, I don’t think they’d put anybody off their meal but I wouldn’t assume other people thought the same. Some of the bare feet we see in summer are hideous but I just avert my eyes. As for going to the shops in bare feet - yuck - I wouldn’t walk on pavements/shops trodden on by who knows what.

No problem with bare feet, my own or other people’s. I don’t paint my finger nails - what’s the point it chips/wears off too easily? - but love a pedicure and colourful toe nails.

Flip flops all summer inside and out and even indoors in the winter. Slippers are dangerous and an aberration imho- nothing says ‘old person’ like shuffling round the house in a pair of slippers especially if with Velcro 😆
Ps I’m 72 and my mother is 95 and also wears Birkenstocks in the summer and also indoors in the winter. We do both have reasonable feet though luckily

I hadn't really thought about it, like many here have already stated, I'm pretty barefoot most of the summer usually wearing some sort of slider and as the name suggests often slide out of them altogether, probably not at someone's else's house maybe. Having said that some people's feet aren't terribly attractive, but I guess like other parts of the body that's all in the eyes of the beholders!

I often had the dilemma when we lived in our previous house, we had a living room on the first floor, when my kids were in their teens they'd tell their friends to take their trainers off in the downstairs hall, it was very much a case of what was the least offensive, the smell of odorous un clad boy feet or a bit of mud on the stair carpet, often the latter seemed the best option

NotGran, I.m pleased for you that you have no bunions, but your assumption that it's because you went barefoot in the house or wore Dr Scholls is not the reason.
I did both of those things , but have horrible bunions. It's all down to your genes. You have been lucky whereas your sister got lumbered!

When I was smaller, we were barefooted all day - only putting on shoes to go to school or church. I go barefoot in the summer - the feeling of grass beneath my feet is gorgeous .

I am either barefoot or wearing woolly socks when at home as I don’t like slippers. We have light coloured carpets so I do expect visitors to take their shoes off and not tread dirt into my house. However if they don’t automatically take them off I don’t ask them to but I’m not bothered by others bare feet. Mind you I don’t think mens hairy feet are that attractive!

Are bare feet bad manners then? It's the first I've heard of it. (Yes, I do know not to put my feet up on the furniture.) Unhygienic? I really like people to remove their shoes - as God knows what they've been walking through outside. I don't insist though - as (unlike the previous comments) I do have good manners, I believe.

A friend once came for a coffee and we sat in living room where she kicked off her shoes and put her feet up on my chair!! Wha?? Anothe DS GF used to sit cross legged on y brand new suite, straining it at the seams! No matter how I hinted she carried on! One day I told her politely not to put feet on couch- I was met with a glare and a" ooh er...touchy!" Comment. Did I slap her silly? Nope I smirked then went and literally bit my pillow!!!!!!

One Christmas one of the DS girlfrinds turned up in massive boots and she took them off to reveal -BARE FEET! she had no socks either, we had bare wooden floors at the time with a big area rug, so I gave her a brand new pack of Pop socks ( I used to use for work when suited in trousers) and she cheerily said "oh no , you're alright I'm okay" blimey! I'm afraid I had to press her to wear them as her freezing purple edged tootsies were not a pretty sight and the marks she left on the wood were less than wanted! How can some peeps be so insensitive to manners in others'homes?

I don't mind bare feet, as long as people don't 'fiddle' with them when sitting down

I worked in a shoe shop and now I can't stand feet. The sights I saw, never mind the smell, oh it makes me shudder even now. I wear flip flops in the summer when I'm on my own, but when I've visitors I change into my slippers. It's so cold at the minute I've really thick socks on and my furry slippers, my toe nails are still painted though.

I quite like feet.
Old, young, straight toes, bent ones.

I find it really odd - this funny thing about feet. Does anyone object to bare hands? When younger, I was always barefoot indoors, sometimes outdoors too. These days, they get chilly - so I tend to cover them up. I'll be in sandals or Crocs in the summer though.

Interesting that BlueBelle has assumed this thread to be an “underhand Meghan slur”. Sorry, but this is a genuine question. Admittedly prompted by Meghan’s comments about her own style of entertaining.
I tend to be squeamish about bare feet so I was checking whether I need to ‘man up’ !

Not sure why there is an aversion to bare feet, there's worse sights than that. Mine are safely encased in socks and slippers (indoors) atm because I'm sure I'd get frostbite atm as we're only putting the heating on twice a day. Apart from the current Arctic conditions, they are left to run free in the house (well shuffle more like) the rest of the time, restrained to sandals or shoes depending on the weather.
