Ok there is only two of us so it’s not cordon blue every night , but I get so bored whilst waiting for everything to cook, what do others do ? - asking for a friend 😂

I always get in the bath while my dinners cooking, by time I’ve had leisurely bath and in pjs my dinners nearly ready to dish up.

Read my online newspaper. Browse the internet. Tidy up. Put something away. Load the washing machine. Sort the tumble drying. Clean something! Anything to make time pass!

I don't cook, DH makes all our meals. We both watch Pointless or the News while it's cooking. On the rare occasions I do cook something I shove it in the oven and go off to do something more interesting. We often had 'slightly overcooked' dinners which is why DH took over the cooking.

I sometimes listen to podcasts or YouTube videos on my phone.

Listen to an audiobook.

I play music whilst cooking and so I dance!

We have a TV in our kitchen because it's where we spend most time - I suspect that's true for lots of people.

Mokeswife Sat 14-Jan-23 13:56:12

I'm amazed at the number of people here with TVs in their kitchens! I listen to Radio 4 News - on the radio!!

GreyhairedWarrior Sat 14-Jan-23 13:52:16

I have an Alexa in the kitchen and I listen to audiobooks on it.

I don't cook. That's DH's department and one of the main reasons I married him. He then retreats to his study and his computer while the (lovely food) is cooking and I just get on with clearing up the, usually quite astonishing, mess in the tiny kitchen.....but it IS worth it!

Drink wine!

MawtheMerrier Sat 14-Jan-23 13:16:02

I tend to nibble at bits of it as soon as they are edible so that by the time it is ready, 1) I know exactly what it tastes like and 2) it’s half gone sad blush

TheMaggiejane1 Sat 14-Jan-23 13:13:45

Have a gin and tonic and a bowl of nibbles, unfortunately.

Watch recordings of The Chase - fast forward the ads. Or listen to radio recordings of I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue, or The News Quiz.

Baggs

Once everything is cooking and the table's set, I sit down, put my feet on the horizontal cooker door handle and read a book. Might sip some wine while I'm at it.

I just love this image....

Pointless is my saviour. I find cooking very boring after 50-odd years of it.

I love this idea, I'm a Kindle addict so I think after preparing all the veg etc we're entitled to a bit of comfortable escapism. Nice one.

I'm constantly astonished at how many people casually ncknbooze on a regular basis and for no reason other than-its there! I used to have an issue with uncontrollable slurping when I worked and it became a real bad habit but now? Hardly ever! I though I was bad but blimey O'Reilly I drank nowhere near what appears to be the norm nowadays . And rubbish like "wine o'clock" and "thank gin it's Friday" seen as somehow funny? Dangerous to normalise boozing I know from bitter experience, those who drink too much almost NEVER acknowledge it and often consider it an indicator that they're somehow clever and modern?

Get Alexa to play my favourite music and dance around the kitchen.
Usually 70s or The Mavericks. My real favourite though is Creedence Clearwater Revival.
It’s also good exercise.

...whatever needs doing... or beading (volunteer work) or call the children...

Used to listen to the radio and 'force' DH to give me a cuddle, sadly can only listen to the radio now.

Hilsmetime Sat 14-Jan-23 11:52:39

I usually listen to the radio- it can be Jo Whiley Radio 2 if I want some pop and then I may dance round the kitchen if appropriate music played or it may be Radio 3 classical depending on my mood. When Strictly Come Dancing is on I’ll watch that on my iPad whilst Hubbie watches it on tv in other room. If it’s a casserole then yes I’ll sit down with a glass of wine occasionally and read or chat to H.

Grandmachrisy47 Sat 14-Jan-23 11:47:02

Watch Pointless while drinking wine 😀

albertina Sat 14-Jan-23 11:42:06

I like to watch the end of Tipping Point and the whole of the Chase while cooking. Red wine has been known to be part of the arrangement.

As others have said, depends on what I'm cooking. I always have Classic FM on unless it's Saturday / Sunday afternoon. when I listen to football commentaries on 5Live or Talksport (F1/tennis/golf during non-footie season). I usually have a crossword or Wordsearch on the go too, so that will get a bit of attention. Mr. G will wander in for a bit of a chat and a cuddle, and will contribute to the crossword - he's not interested in the football though, so soon wanders off again ..
