Have you got Just3words on your phone or a green bottle in the fridge?

If you have then have you ever needed them?
I went along to an evening to brush up on my CPR Defibrillator skill last night. The Air Ambulance volunteer mentioned both of the above.
I’m definitely going to list details of my blood group and medical history and pop it in the fridge but not so sure about the app. Part of me thinks why not ? Part of me is reluctant to put anything else on my phone that knows where I am.

I’ve never heard of that bottle in the fridge thing but I live alone and I’ve got an iPhone I’ve got my blood type and all my medication my next of kin my drs allergies etc all in my iPhone anyone who is emergencies services can bypass your face id etc and get into your phone and read it all. After all you always have your phone on you and mine as being tested and help the ambulance crew.

Medics can access via emergency on front screen without accessing rest of phone, as long as you have inputted your medical info & contact numbers etc.

Thank you for informing me about the Lions message in a bottle scheme. I have ordered one on line by using this web page
lionsclubs.co/Public/messsage-in-a-bottle/

I have all that medical info for emergency use accessible on my phone which is important when out and about.

How would the medics access that info?

I think they are actually called Message in a Bottle.

Here is a photo of part of the page that comes up on the Lions site when you goggle ‘green bottles in the fridge’

There are Lions Clubs in Germany too. They are very active (at least our local ones are). I doubt if they have the green bottle system, though.

What 3 words is fine, but here the words are German and I often wonder if that would be any good to a foreigner, and could lead to misunderstandings through wrong pronunciation - this would also apply in other countries as the words are always presumably in the vernacular. I once looked up my address on w3w but I've forgotten it. Delivery drivers are not usually German and can hardly speak the language, so I can't imagine it would be much use here. Also there are strict rules for addressing properties and navigation is fairly straightforward. If you're out in the sticks - say, in the woods or on a heath - it may help, but both parties would have to be native speakers.

I have 3 words on my phone but haven’t used it yet.

Not heard of the Green bottle but what a great idea. I would definitely use it in the future if we ever take any medications and will tell my in-laws about it.

The Lions have always been a big thing around here and I’ve just seen that there are 29 branches in our county, and one branch is 400 yards from my in-laws.

At one time, they were available in pharmacies and some gp surgeries.

On the face of it the green container seems a good idea, but wouldn’t the green sticker on the front door just highlight to burglars that an elderly person lives there, thereby making them a target?

The advice is to put it on the inside of the front door.

I’ve never heard of either.

GN is so good at this sort of information. Like JL knickers.

I will explore as DH is on lots of meds etc.

Thank you

Actually just done the bottle, now need to find my phone😄

BlueBelle yes, it is most odd.
There are several groups where I am (Derby) and also where I grew up (West Midlands) and yet I had not heard of them until now

Ailidh Sat 22-Apr-23 06:08:26

I have what3words but the only time I've tried using it with a delivery driver from a well known company, he said he had no idea what I was talking about!

BlueBelle Sat 22-Apr-23 06:08:09

I m surprised so few of you know of The Lions it’s an international charity I ve known of it since a child they do a lot of charitable events and are often behind big town charity happenings
I suppose they are stronger in some towns than others but
we ve certainly had a strong group here for as long as I remember

BlueBelle Sat 22-Apr-23 05:59:24

No jennifereccles the sticker dies not encourage burglars unless they are already inside your house 😂
It’s stuck on the INSIDE of the front door so as the paramedics close your door after entering they will see it loud and clear

I’ll try again

FannyCornforth Sat 22-Apr-23 00:33:27

Well, I’ve just googled ‘the lions’ and the British and Irish Lions (rugby supporters) came up and a strange Christian group confused

FannyCornforth Sat 22-Apr-23 00:30:22

I’ve never heard of The Lions either.
Or the bottle / fridge thing.

I have What3Words, but no idea what the green bottle thing is - who are the Lions?

I took the GC to the park last week. Volunteers were working in the flower beds and there was a sign saying "Please support the Lions". GS said "Why should we support lions? They're wild ferocious creatures!"

Cue for a chat about vulnerable species.
However, he could get confused about keeping a green box in the fridge and wonder if there's a lion in it

I'm in the Scottish Borders and have never heard of the Lions. Maybe it's an English thing.

The Lions:
Lions are ordinary people who do extraordinary things to help others and support good causes throughout the British Isles. Globally we have more volunteers in more places than any other service club organisation, and love to step forward to volunteer, help others and make things happen.

Wherever you live, work or travel across the British Isles, you are likely to come across members of Lions clubs and the projects we support.
lionsclubs.co/Public/

We don't belong but have been to some of their fundraising events.
