Have you got Just3words on your phone or a green bottle in the fridge?

If you have then have you ever needed them?
I went along to an evening to brush up on my CPR Defibrillator skill last night. The Air Ambulance volunteer mentioned both of the above.
I’m definitely going to list details of my blood group and medical history and pop it in the fridge but not so sure about the app. Part of me thinks why not ? Part of me is reluctant to put anything else on my phone that knows where I am.

I have the app, but don't know what the bottle in the fridge thing is about.

Last year we came across an accident on a road in the middle of nowhere. We had had to follow a number of diversions and so didn’t know where we were and our sat nav had lost its signal. We called 999 who were trying to work out where we were, then I remembered DH had what3words on his phone. Both the paramedics, and police told us it was way more accurate than relying on grid references and also meant the air ambulance could locate incidents easily and quickly.

What3words is really useful, but I don't have a green bottle in the fridge

The Lions run something called ‘Message in a bottle’. It is a free service. You can get a bottle and a form to fill in with all your medical details. Fill it in, pop it in the fridge, put green stickers on your front/back door (I presume they come with the kit)
If you need an ambulance or paramedic they will know to look in your fridge and then they know what meds you are on, blood group ect.

I have a green bottle in the fridge but it contains a rather nice wine …

I have What3Words, but no idea what the green bottle thing is - who are the Lions?

I ve had a green tub in my fridge for about ten years never had to use it thankfully
I also have what three words on my phone and did use it two weeks ago when a lady was taken I’ll and the ambulance service couldn’t find the address although it’s bank in the main road

Baggs Fri 21-Apr-23 18:09:39

We use what3words in our address all the time. It has meant delivery people have not had the excuse of not being able to find us. We are a little 'off road', i.e. no street, no house number, etc, but not sigificant enough to be easily found if you are clueless about the area. A very useful app.

Blondiscot are you in UK
The lions is a very well established voluntary organisation that does very good works in all walks of life I m amazed
you ve never heard of them I think every town has a branch

I have the what3words app on my phone. It has helped me direct loads of delivery drivers to houses in our area. I also give my what3words address to companies such as DPD as my house can't be seen from the roadside.
I don't have a green bottle in my fridge though. I didn't know about that one.

Callistemon21 Fri 21-Apr-23 18:20:40

I've never heard of this.

A friend and her husband were very active in The Lions, I'm surprised she hasn't told us all about it. I'll ask her 🙂

I think the bottle in my fridge is brown tonight.

Ann001 Fri 21-Apr-23 18:32:03

I have What3words and used it once to direct the recovery vehicle, really accurate. I also have the Lions green tub, yes it comes with the stickers. As I live on my own I also have a key safe, very useful when I lock myself out 😂
My bottle in the fridge is clear, tonic for the gin later 😜

Callistemon21 Fri 21-Apr-23 18:33:37

Wouldn't it be fiddly and quite difficult to get a message out of a bottle?

BlueBelle Fri 21-Apr-23 18:46:17

It’s NOT a bottle it’s a small white tub with a green lid and inside is your form with your medical info on
I m surprised no one’s heard of it I did it for my mum and dad and they died 11 years ago so been around at least 15 years I did mine around the same time and add or subtract information as you go along

I have the What3Words app. Ive used it once, facetiously, when my purchasers wanted the exact location of my oil tank in a garden smaller than a postage stamp.
Seriously, I’ve no doubt of its usefulness in a crisis. Not sure about the green bottle thing. Must investigate.

MaggsMcG Fri 21-Apr-23 19:46:00

I have what three words but I've never used it yet. The one time I would have liked to I couldn't access the app because I only had one hand free at the time (dont ask). smile

Yes, I'm in Scotland though. Honestly not familiar with that organisation, and considering I've worked in the newspaper industry all my life, I'm surprised at that, as I knew most of the community groups in the areas I worked.

Marydoll Fri 21-Apr-23 20:15:11

I don't have a green bottle, but all my medical details, including meds, consultants and CHI number are pinned to the notice board in the kitchen.

On the occasions, I have had to go to hospital, DH has handed it to the paramedics. The have commented that this info made their job so much easier.

Recently, I was called in the early evening to say that a bed had been found for me in the Cardiology unit and I was to bypass A&E and go straight to the ward.
The admitting doctor asked if by any chance I knew my CHI number as there were no details regarding my admission. I handed him the sheet of medical info, which I keep updated. Sorted!

#smug gran! wink

No Lions in my area in Glasgow, as far as I know.

I have what3words on my phone and know about the container.

PamelaJ1 Fri 21-Apr-23 20:48:10

Marydoll you have obviously already thought ahead but for those home alone it wouldn’t work unless the patient was able to communicate.
I’m definitely going to get a couple.
Then I can be smug too😂
