In the last couple of days I discovered a smashed window in the door leading to an undercroft storage room beneath the conservatory. Someone had hit it with something hard like a stone shattering the glass in the first layer of double glazing in the upper door. You can see into the room which just has wood logs stored and does not give access to the house. Either it was an attempted break in or malicious damage from someone, possibly because they were using the drive as a through route and found the gate locked at the other end.

We now think it would be a good idea to fit a security camera facing down the drive so it will pick up vehicles or anyone coming to the house that way. It faces north east. Dh thinks a Solar security camera would work. Any advice from anyone who has got a security/cctv outdoor camera would be appreciated.

It may be that the glass just shattered. I know of two instances recently- one, the outer skin of the fanlight in my en suite just "went" suddenly one morning with a huge bang and scaring the life out of Rosie and me. The second happened to a friend who had gone into a neighbours house while they were on holiday to water the plants and found the inner skin of a conservatory roof panel in thousands of pieces all over everything.
No suggestion of a bird or stray stone in either case.
Just a suggestion unless you have reason to suspect a possible intruder or random act of violence.

Not sure Foxygloves. I reported it to the police. There is part of the glass that took most of the force which made me think of a stone. I’m getting it repaired ASAP. I think a security camera would be a good idea anyway as we are a bit out of the way.
