Help! I'm confused. I have lived for over 30 years at the same address, and the same name. I'm sending off for my licence now the old one will expire when I get to 70. It asks me to return my paper licence, provide a UK birth Cert, and other bits. However, my birth cert is in my original name, so do they want copies of marriage/divorce/marriage certs? It asks for documents to confirm if your name is different from your original license, which it isn't, but I'm a bit concerned. What do you think, ladies? (And it's been a while since I've been on Gransnet, so hello if you rember me!!)

You say your name is the same as that on your driving licence, so no need to provide extra documents - that’s only needed if your name isn’t the same as on the driving licence.

When I was coming up to 70th, it was difficult as I still have my old paper licence no photo ID or passport so had get my photo witnessed and signed also had to put in various paper work. If you were including birth cert according the notes that came with the form that is not enough to prove who you are so I enclosed my marriage cert also to be on the safe side I put in my letter from DWP which has my NI certificate, its all in section 5 of the notes what you need to enclosed.

I did mine all online, didn't send any documents at all and received new licence in the post in about a week.

I was impressed how easy the process was when I applied for my new driving licence at the end of May before my 70th birthday.
Applying online was easy, sending details of my passport, so even the photo on that was used. It arrived in about a week.
I was sad to surrender my ancient paper licence though!
