Air conditioning unit

We’ve got a couple- one up in a bedroom and one downstairs. You need them here in Summer. They are both reverse cycle so you can use them as heaters if you need to. They are very quiet, you hardly hear them. Don’t get one of those that needs to have water added , they are loud and annoying.

We’ve got a mobile one for health reasons too. Only put it on an hour before bedtime so room cools enough to sleep and then cooler night air takes over. It is very loud. Wished we’d had one last year but they were in very short supply so I ordered it this year. Son and grandson manoeuvred it upstairs and there it will stop.

We have one in our bedroom. They are only noisy if you leave them on all night. We put ours on a couple of hours before we go to bed and it chills the room down sufficiently to make sleeping more comfortable.

We have a Mitsubishi Electric one in our sitting room . It's powered by our solar panels so is free in the summer. It can also be used as heater in the winter. It is virtually silent. We live in a bungalow with huge windows and it was unbearable before we got the Aircon - it's now perfect. During last summer's extreme heat we even slept in the sitting room because of the Aircon!

We’ve got a chiller unit, no outside venting needed, it does the job for us in the living room.

We had an air source pump fitted in our conservatory. Cool in summer, warm in winter and a reasonable cost to run. Made the conservatory lovely to live in whatever the weather.

Are you considering a mobile air con unit?
We have a Princess one which can be moved from room to room as required.
If so, consider a few things….they are quite heavy but most are fitted with wheels. Getting our upstairs was quite a struggle so it’s now in permanent residence there.
They require a window vent to remove the hot air so you need to position it fairly close to a window. Most come with window kits.
They are noisy, I cannot sleep if ours is working but as it has cooled the room by the time I’m ready to sleep this is ok for me.
We have only used ours for one day this year so far, so cost of electricity isn’t worrying.
To be honest I would get one now while there are are variety to choose from.
OH was having Chemotherapy last year and it was a godsend.

We had one in France which cooled our bedroom down but it was noisy, consumed 3kW (as much as a three bar electric fire) and needed a vent to the outside. But it was fairly cheap at £99 from Homebase 20 years ago. We left it behind.

I'm pondering one too. We have floor to ceiling south facing windows that turn out flat into an oven. The Dyson fan does well but just creates a hot draft really.

The reason we are giving it consideration is because DH has a heart condition and his body does not cope with the extreme heat. He goes very pale and feels very unwell. So yes I am absolutely aware of the environmental issues, but I’m afraid DHs health takes priority.

Bear in mind that they can be very noisy, so check the noise level on the specification and situate it away from neighbours walls as far as possible. Good relationships with them are important!

I suppose it all depends on whether you’re generating your own electricity and how environmentally friendly you are.

Sorry a silly question... does it just cool one room so you would need more than one unit? Are they very noisy?

We had a unit fitted about 4 weeks ago. The best thing we ever did.
Ours is a Midea unit recommended by the lovely young man who fitted it.
It has made a huge difference in the last few very hot weeks.

Just looked up Which and they recommend AEG chillflex pro. Anyone got one?
