We have an Evri/formerly Hermes driver, been coming for years. He is polite & friendly and we usually exchange a few words even though it is obvious he has a very busy schedule.
I cannot understand why such a fuss is being made about using the word foreigner or why it is considered so offensive by some. How was the OP supposed to describe him "as a young person, possibly of non English/British origin"? If I were to describe someone as a foreign gentleman or lady would that be more acceptable? something I am likely to do in an ordinary conversation to convey that they were not English/British speaking nationals. I think 25Avalon was right in reporting this, that is why the facility to do so is provided on the website.

Has anyone reported a non-taxed vehicle to the DVLA and did they take action?
(130 Posts)Two weeks ago I was working in the garden some distance from the house when Evri arrived to deliver a parcel. I asked the driver to take the parcel to the door as per delivery instructions but he refused and threw the parcel at me before getting back into his van. He roared off quickly, backwards, when he saw me take my mobile out to take a photo of his van which I thought was suspicious. I’ve complained to Lakeland the supplier and Evri but nothing back.
Then on Saturday I saw this van being driven in the village with the same young foreign man driving. I took a note of the number and on checking through DVLA when I got home discovered its road tax ran out in May. This means he is driving around untaxed and uninsured as a courier. I’ve reported it online but will DVLA take any action? Does anyone know?
Should add: not just assume they are "foreign" but possibly not here legally just because of their colour!
The man spoke to her, therefore OP could tell he wasn’t British. I have already made that point. Why so much heckling of her for a simple comment? In my area, which is out in the sticks, most Evri, Yodel and Amazon drivers are foreign.
If you look upthread I did acknowledge she had done the right thing in taking it up.
I am however aware, living in a city with friends from different cultures, that sometimes people assume that they are "foreign" because of the colour of their skin, and it does genuinely affect their lives and that of their families to have it assumed.
Therefore I do take opportunities to gently point out to people this may be the case.
I don't get offended. I heave a sigh, feel sad, and concerned for those friends I have, and make my point.
I agree utterbliss. People who report crimes are to be applauded - and yes, there are many who are always looking for the next thing to be offended by. Life’s too short.
GMS you are so right.I had hoped that GN was the one site which would be free of
The Permanently offended. People who seem to spend their time looking for something to be offended by.
We should thank people like 25 Avalon for doing the right thing.
Oh good gracious what a lot of baloney! I must find something better to do with my coffee time this morning …………

Good for you for reporting him 25Avalon and you have absolutely no need to apologise for using the word foreigner.
Hopefully part of the investigation will be to ensure that the individual concerned has a right to be here.
One cannot know by skin colour that a person is a ‘foreigner’
They might have been born in Croyden or Glasgow for all we know and be a UK citizen. Someone who ‘looks’ UK could equally be ‘a foreigner’.
To then go on allude to immigration issues is gratuitous based on very unsavory assumptions imo.
Yes we have reported a neighbour for driving an untaxed and no MOT vehicle. DVLA sent someone to the house, I knew the neighbour was in but wouldn't answer the door, the man stuck a notice on his car and clamped it.

101 police and let Evri know.
This.
I don't think "looking foreign" is relevant unless you are asked for a description.
The “foreigner” comment is totally irrelevant to the situation and I agree with fleurpepper should not have been used.
Licence is the noun
License is the verb
Evri is often criticised but I’ve used it hundreds of times as a sender and receiver with no issues.

There are 1000s of British expats that have acquired another nationality in foreign countries, totally legally- and still look 'different' and have a strange accent and not fluent in the local language.
I'm also sure that if they had acted as this Evri employee had, they would also have been pointed out as that foreigner, who doesn't speak whatever language.

Who said it was just 'foreigners Fleurpepper? And where did they say that? I'm becoming suspicious of where your questions are leading and why you're doing it.
The OP made a point of saying the driver was a ‘young foreigner’ which, although I agree with the sentiment of the post, I thought the mention that he was a ‘foreigner’ was irrelevant and, I must admit I thought that was wrong.
It is relevant because of the issue over driving licences.
If my family come here they are able to drive on a foreign driving licence for the duration of a holiday but if they stayed and worked here they would need to apply for British driving licences.
I don't know why posters don't seem to understand that.

I googled checking if a vehicle is taxed and up popped the DVLA site. I had no idea it was possible until then. Then I saw you could report anonymously so I did. The driver may have a valid driving license and he may not the registered keeper but he is driving an uninsured van. It also tells you if a vehicle has an indate MOT which it did.
Sorry about the use of the word foreigner but I did not know what nationality he was and that was the only word I could think of. He could have been Eastern European I suppose. Not sure.
My garden is very large and the back gate (5 bar) is a long distance from the house and too far for me to carry heavy parcels. Maybe you think I should have got my car and driven up for it?I pay for delivery to my door and every other delivery company does it with a smile and without being asked. All except Evri.
Why is it when someone post’s something it gets twisted and jumped on by some posters? No wonder people leave GN.
I am off to post it on the police website as advised by GSM - thanks.
Elaine1 yes. Just go on the DVLA website, enter a vehicle registration number and it will tell you all about that vehicle, whether it's taxed and insured and when they're due for renewal. And You can report an untaxed vehicle to the DVLA, anonymously, online.

No comment about the thread but how do you know a vehicle is untaxed as you don't get a disc to display any more? Can you look up the DVLA site?
Yes you can, because I checked my registration today re new tax. It is all there, tax and MOT details, and whether or not it is expired or not.
OP. as stated by several posters, you need to report the non-compliance to the police.

Back in the days before Evri we had Hermes, their previous incarnation. I had a parcel delivered incorrectly by them so I took it round to its intended recipient - about a quarter of a mile away. Not wanting the recipients to claim that they hadn't received their order, I emailed Hermes and told them what I'd done. What ensued was a complete farce where customer service was unable to understand what had happened and assumed I was complaining about a missing parcel. There were a number of exchanges culminating in my suggestion that they pay me for carrying out their delivery for them! Their response was to offer me a 10% discount on my next delivery. In your dreams I thought! I groan inwardly when I hear that a delivery is coming with them. The company don't seem to have improved and everyone knows the rebranding was about the terrible reputation they had, so I wouldn't hold my breath as regards them caring about an untaxed vehicle, unless they are now employing a much higher calibre of customer service staff!

Thank you- it was.
Sadly many have not and are driving on UK registered cars too, totally illegally, with insurance registered at a relative's address, etc- so not valid. But that is a totally different story.
I can see zero reason why my post was deleted- there was absolutely nothing wrong with it at all- just 2 simple questions.
Well, Fleurpepper I hope they have swapped their driving licenses to those of the countries they live in, so that they are driving legally in taxed and insured vehicles in their countries of residence.
I'll leave you with that Fleurpepper; you seem pretty determined to take this discussion in a totally different direction that I'm not at all comfortable with. You've already had one post deleted and I'd rather not be involved with you getting more.
and vice-versa of course.
