Has anyone reported a non-taxed vehicle to the DVLA and did they take action?

Two weeks ago I was working in the garden some distance from the house when Evri arrived to deliver a parcel. I asked the driver to take the parcel to the door as per delivery instructions but he refused and threw the parcel at me before getting back into his van. He roared off quickly, backwards, when he saw me take my mobile out to take a photo of his van which I thought was suspicious. I’ve complained to Lakeland the supplier and Evri but nothing back.

Then on Saturday I saw this van being driven in the village with the same young foreign man driving. I took a note of the number and on checking through DVLA when I got home discovered its road tax ran out in May. This means he is driving around untaxed and uninsured as a courier. I’ve reported it online but will DVLA take any action? Does anyone know?

They might eventually, but it might be worth also reporting it to Evri.

I would report it to the police rather DVLA. If your facts are right he’s committing criminal offences.

I have but the vehicle was stationary on the road and not being used. They eventually put a clamp and notice on it.
I would report to Police and Evri. If he is out delivering daily they should put a stop to it.

101 police and let Evri know.

He roared off quickly, backwards

The drivers are on such a tight schedule that I wonder if they always drive safely. The way he did that sounds worrying.

I would do as others advise.

He obviously spoke to the OP fleurpepper, when he refused to take the parcel to her door.
Your suggestion of racism is offensive.

Not all countries' driving licenses are valid in the UK.

welbeck Mon 17-Jul-23 11:55:30

i don't think any are after one year ?

Callistemon21 Mon 17-Jul-23 11:55:47

What is EVRI courier insurance?
Being a courier is a line of work that comes with a unique set of challenges. Extended periods of time on the road and driving in unfamiliar areas while handling goods naturally holds more risks than your average 9-5.

As a result, EVRI couriers are required to have specific delivery driver insurance. A normal car insurance or social, domestic and pleasure (SD&P) policy won’t cut it, as they are not tailored to the specific circumstances that couriers face every day.

I'm surprised, as I would have thought that Evri would want to ensure that all their drivers are taxed and insured, at least third party.

Evri should respond to you as a matter of urgency.

I think that is right.
You can exchange your driving license for a UK one if you are here for longer.

There is no proof of who was driving when you took the photo.

All this because you did not want him to give you the parcel in the garden.

I do not think it is ok to drive an untaxed vehicle but I find your behaviour against this person excessive. I doubt you will get anymore deliveries from Evri.

biglouis Mon 17-Jul-23 12:20:30

I often have to go into the garden to get my parcels as I dont use the door which is officially my "front one". My house is back to front and the door for post is up an alley with no vehicle access.

However I have a few bad things to say about Evri leaving packages outside my gate and not even putting them by the kitchen door. One year around Christmas they mis-delivered 2 mailpieces to me and I (with mobility issues) had to figure out how to get them to the correct recipients. A neighbour dropped off one and the Tesco man took the other.

Blondiescot Mon 17-Jul-23 12:23:25

Going back to the OP's question, I have reported an untaxed vehicle, namely a large van which had been parked for more than a week in our street, partly on the pavement, causing problems not only for pedestrians, but also for large vehicles and buses trying to get past. It was eventually clamped and then removed.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 17-Jul-23 12:25:57

If the vehicle is untaxed that may invalidate the insurance Theexwife.

Theexwife Mon 17-Jul-23 12:32:19

I do not agree with driving an untaxed vehicle and realise the insurance consequences, my point was that the OP was originally trying to take a picture because the parcel was not delivered as she wanted. I would like to know if she regularly takes pictures of vehicles to see if they are taxed and what would she like the outcome of this instance to be, the man to lose his job?

MayBee70 Mon 17-Jul-23 12:40:09

DH’s car was written off by a delivery van that was reversing at speed. It’s really important that these vehicles are taxed and insured because the drivers are under such pressure. Evry seem different to other couriers in my limited experience in that people are dependent on having a good reliable one working their area.: we had the same one for years and she was very good. Then another time a delivery was weeks late ( the company even reimbursed me in the end) because the delivery driver was on holiday. When it eventually arrived we were away ourselves.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 17-Jul-23 12:41:44

He wasn’t doing his job very well, was he? If the vehicle belongs to him and he hasn’t taxed it, then if he loses his job as a consequence he has only himself to blame.

No, it would probably be best to choose another courier if possible 25Avalon

I have heard bad reports of Evri in other areas although I must say the ones here have always been fine, delivering to the door with a friendly smile.

However, you takes your chances with any deliveries these days as the drivers are pressurised by the companies. Amazon have delivered my clearly addressed parcel to another house (not discovered for two weeks as the occupants were in holiday) and we regularly receive parcels for somewhere with a similar address but different postcode.
Others have been left just dumped on the doorstep in clear view of passersby.

Driving without tax and insurance or a current MOT if required is illegal.

This!

He is risking his own job and, if he was in an accident, serious consequences.

I didn't suggest anything. I asked 2 simple questions to which the OP could have simply replied.

Fleurpepper Mon 17-Jul-23 12:48:38

Why mention he is 'foreign'? It is irrelevant.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 17-Jul-23 12:56:48

Why not mention it? It’s you who is making something of it.
