10 years ago we bought leather La-Z-Boy reclining furniture and within a couple of years, the leather was looking very worn. It now has holes in where we rest our arms. I would never buy it again.

We went to lots of furniture shops and viewed every design and every covering choice. We sat on 20 odd sofas and made our choice from actually sitting on them. We chose a hard wearing hopsack fabric with reclining functions. The reclining features have been invaluable as I am having mobility issues at the moment whilst waiting for knee surgery. We change our sofas every 15 years or so when we redecorate.

My husband dislikes leather furniture as well, it is much easier to keep clean though. We have two G Plan chairs and they are very comfortable, I am hoping when we replace them he will relent and we can have leather or microfibre.

I dislike leather chairs. Squeaky and slippery. I whave never sat in one yet that I found comfortable. But I can see that if you have pets they might be a good idea.

Good quality leather is the BEST .Had mine 12 years and it still looks as new ....from G plan.

Comfort is very much a personal opinion, I would try sofas that friends and family have to give you some idea or measure every part of your old sofa and look online for the same dimensions to narrow your search.

We have just bought Ercol sofas and chair. It's lovely.

We have a large old Habitat sofa which we had recovered in a linen William Morris print over ten years ago. Not a mark or a worn patch on it. Linen is lovely and always looks good.

5 years ago we bought two G Plan, leather sofas, and they have been so comfortable and are wearing well.
They are bigger than a 2 seater, but not big enough to be 3 seaters.
Actually, we were on holiday in Sidmouth, looked in a department store there, and decided they were the ones. So chose the leather and they were delivered some weeks later, to Berkshire. Result.

I need something better to sit on….
We have stressless leather currently but it’s so old and worn out, it was secondhand. It’s really time to replace it. Anyone got any ideas on something really comfy, nothing too low. We have to travel to look so would like a headstart.
