I'm very recently home from hospital after a Total Knee Replacement .
Which supermarket still delivers orders packed in carrier bags and do their drivers carry into my kitchen please?

I had an operation earlier this year. We ordered our shopping from Asda whilst I was recuperating.

The order form allows space for any special information, we asked that the order be delivered into the house and explained why. The drivers did as requested with a smile.

I live in a first floor retirement flat. Ocado drivers bring my shopping into the kitchen and put it where I ask, no problem.

ExDancer Tue 01-Aug-23 12:25:16

Both Asda and Tesco will bring the trays into the house and help unpacking the goods onto the worktops.
Iceland will bring the trays inside and help unload the bags as well.
I've found all the delivery boys are cheerful and helpful.

Iceland don't charge delivery in this area.

I find it varies among drivers. When the first driver ( Sainsbury) asked if I wanted them in the kitchen, he told me they are now allowed to come in but a lot of them don’t bother offering! I have been surprised at the number who will happily stand and let me pack everything on the doorstep.

I hope your recovery goes well. Don't overdo things. Ocado are really good. They carry my shopping into the kitchen. They also have long use by dates.

Sainsburys don’t use carriers anymore ….quite rightly….. I have my own bags waiting at door…the drivers out the trays into my hallway and I pack my own bags ….and I then carry them into kitchen. But if asked they will take them through to kitchen for you….they are excellent drivers and very obliging.

Asda delivery drivers do. There are delivery slots available from £1.50. I'm disabled and use crutches or my wheelchair, the drivers always offer to bring the crates in and unload for me. I think there is a option to have carrier bags instead of crates if you wish, on the delivery page. I'm not sure of the cost though.
Wishing you a speedy recovery 🌸

i'm just home from a total hip replacement, and the Sainsburys delivery driver is extremely helpful. I leave my bags in the porch and he packs them from the boxes and brings into kitchen. Think it depends on the drivers

Nannashirlz Tue 01-Aug-23 14:10:18

Hi I’m disabled so I get mine delivered and if you fill in the box anything else you want to add just put in disabled will need help carrying into wherever you want it put and the driver will do also bring it in bags or crates in and take them away afterwards. I used to live in a first floor flat until last week now I’m in a bungalow I tend to use Iceland and Morrisons now but Tesco’s also good Asda not very helpful but that’s my experience yours could be different

i get iceland most weeks and they come in carrier bags into my kitchen, before people say, this weeks order had no frozen food in the delivery.

Yes, I've noticed that Iceland, who deliver to my next door neighbour, have it all packed in carrier bags each week. If you have a favourite supermarket you could contact them, explain your problem and ask if they can help.

I pass the Tesco driver a couple of bags and he packs them for me and puts them on the counter top in my kitchen. There is a space on the online form where you can explain this if you are disabled or have mobility issues. None of them have ever complained but I do tend to get the same few regular drivers.

I keep expecting a post about Tesco tray liners to pop up 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

mamaa Tue 01-Aug-23 14:43:34

Ocado use colour coded carrier bags ie mainly grey but with purple, red, or green handles and writing so you can differentiate between cupboard, fridge or freezer. I have mine just popped in the porch but they'd carry them through to kitchen if required.

Bags from any previous delivery of theirs are taken away by driver and the charge made for those bags is refunded to that weeks receipt.

Receipt also categorises purchases by storage and shows use by dates where applicable- usually quite longdated too.

I have had deliveries from Sainsburys every week for six years. The drivers will unpack the crates on to the kitchen table. Some drivers offer to put things in the freezer or fridge and put heavy bottles into the larder.
I have tried Waitrose but besides the prices higher some of the salad veg and fruit not so fresh.
Goods are sourced from the nearest store to your home. I live in a rural area with a supersize Sainsbury but small Waitrose in the nearest town.

You can't get them any more, can you?

Tesco deliver all my groceries. Here in Aberdeen I have found all drivers very pleasant and helpful. If you ask they will bring it onto the kitchen and unload the boxes for you.

vickymeldrew Tue 01-Aug-23 17:13:39

I have always found Tesco drivers to be very pleasant and efficient. However, why don’t you call Tesco and ask them?
Never had a problem getting through on the central enquiries number.

SusieB50 Tue 01-Aug-23 17:27:38

Ocado very helpful . I had a hip replacement over a year ago and the drivers brought them through to the kitchen table for me . Many drivers still offer They take back the plastic bags each time and you are refunded .

DiamondLily Tue 01-Aug-23 18:10:02

Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asdas I have to unpack at the door.

Ocado is hassle free, with delivering it all in bags.

You can give them back for a refund.

tictacnana Tue 01-Aug-23 18:42:07

I had Tesco home deliveries when I had my hip replacement 20 odd years ago. Very good. My daughter still uses them. Get well soon! X

SueDoku Tue 01-Aug-23 19:02:27

Ocado are excellent - very few substitutions, bags carried in for you, and old bags taken away (& credited from your bill) to be recycled.
I've used them for years - they pricematch to other shops, and send you a voucher to use for your next shop if their items are more expensive (I think that the most I've ever been credited is about 40p).

Eileen Tue 01-Aug-23 19:21:41

I use Asda , no bags but they will empty their crates onto the kitchen table or wherever I ask the driver to put the goods. Excellent service. I have tried Morrisons and Sainsbury as well.
Most drivers are very helpful.

Ocado still deliver in bags. They will take them back on the next delivery, if asked.👍

One of the rare supermarkets that bring bags of shopping to your door.My Mum uses Ocado for just that reason. They take the bags back and refund 10p bag.She doesn’t want strange blokes going through to her kitchen so likes the shopping left in bags at the door.

Ocado are great! They bring the shopping in bags. You pay for them but on the next delivery you return them and your account is credited. Major bonuses for me are 1- they generally have all the items ordered and 2 - they carry M and S so that is a great choice for me. You won’t be disappointed
