Hive - where is yours?

In my last bungalow the Hive was in the L-shaped hall, round the corner, away from the front door.

It was just for the heating, didn't do any of the other fancy things, but I loved being able to turn the heat on from my phone when I was about half an hour away, so that warmth was waiting for me!

We have a long thin house with a boiler each end. We also have freestanding thermostats thta can be moved around at will.

At one end of the house the thermostat is in the study as that is the room we use most during the day and at the other end it is in an inner hall, but some times gets moveed into the living room.

Ours is in the hall, on the recommendation of the heating engineer. We have a porch, so it isn't draughty hall.
We also have thermostats on our radiators.

Our was fitted in the hall by the builder.
When we needed a new one and had a new boiler and other alterations, I asked if it should be moved and the heating engineer said no, it was in the right place as we had thermostats on radiators.

I thought they were the experts and should tell you where the best place is! 😂 If you think the hall isn’t suitable maybe the room you use most might be suitable?

We have had a Hive since they were first promoted. We were told to put it where it worked best. We do have thermostats on the radiators but the heating has to on use them.

I think Hive is more than just a thermostat. It seems to be a whole house electronic monitoring system including house and raditor thermostats and remote controls.

We do not need such fine control for our CH so do not have any such system

Your installer should be able to tell you the best place, I’d have thought. Ours is in the hallway but not close to the front door.

Do you have thermostats on all your radiators? That will also allow you to adjust things to how you want them.

We have the Nest equivalent which is in the living room which is where we sit still and so need the ambient temperature.
It's recommended to be in the centre of the house away from sources of heat and draughts. Ours has a sunlight sensor which takes heat from direct light into account.

I never understood thermostats in a hallway where nobody lingers for long.

Ours is in the hall but if we're in the sitting room we take it in there, the room is small and cosy so heats up more quickly which makes the heating go off sooner.

Mine is at the bottom of the garden - very busy and happy they are.

Oh, I thought you meant bee hive. Or hives!
We've had a lot of bees this year, which is encouraging, most were not honey bees though.

Our thermostat is in an inner hall, with no outside access, at the recommendation of the heating engineer when we changed the boiler.

Never heard of Hive only for bees so that one’s missed me I seem to have survived though
