Is it just me or does anyone else never get letters fromDWP re pension.
The only one I had was to confirm my pension.
My husband recently had one about winter fuel allowance. As usual I've had nothing.
Would phone but sure will open a can if worms. Getting my pension initially was fraught.
Thanks for reading

I just got a letter last year informing me of my pension that's it nothing else.

BlueBelle Sat 28-Oct-23 16:06:52

I ve had my winter fuel allowance letter
Did your husbands letter cover you both ?

Luckygirl3 Sat 28-Oct-23 16:09:04

The winter fuel allowance is a joint thing I think.

I just get my yearly pension letter in April and a letter to confirm my winter fuel allowance. One person gets that not both. What other letters are you expecting?

Nana56 Sat 28-Oct-23 16:35:31

I haven't had letters regarding pension increase or fuel allowance. Last year we both got it and I have kept the money to one side waiting for DWP to ask for it back.
Initially I didn't get application to apply and had several forms go missing, and phone calls etc. Therefore, i am wary of getting in touch.

I never get a yearly letter

BlueBelle Sat 28-Oct-23 16:40:04

I don’t think you’re missing a lot Nana 😂

Nana56

I never get a yearly letter

We don't apply for Winter Fuel Allowance, it just comes! We get separate letters regarding Winter Fuel Allowance but husband's letter always comes first.

I think it makes a difference if you marry after both getting the state pension -
like us, we are much better off than people who married before getting their pensions, we just carried on getting our single pension, although I did lose my Pension Credit ... which I occasionally remind him of! smile

I don’t think you’re missing a lot Nana 😂

Its £500 between us!

Ps We don't do Internet banking so only know what we've received when we get a bank statement x

Nana56 there is no alternative to you contacting the pensions Agency and asking them why you are not getting these letters.

Ihave read the sentence in your post every possible way I can
Initially I didn't get application to apply and had several forms go missing, and phone calls etc. Therefore, i am wary of getting in touch. and no matter how Iread it I cannot make it make sense.

Why on earth should the fact that they messed everything up in the first place make you wary of contacting them again. I would be baraging them with calls, complaints etc etc until they got everything right.

HeavenLeigh Sat 28-Oct-23 16:51:57

I don’t get a fuel allowance

Oopsadaisy1 Sat 28-Oct-23 16:58:29

We both get a Pension update letter each year and we both get the Winter Allowance letter, MrOops letter for that arrived this morning, mine usually arrives a week or so later.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 28-Oct-23 17:00:43

If you are entitled to your SP you are entitled to the winter fuel allowance.

Why on earth are you keeping the winter fuel payment on one side thinking the DWP will ask for it back Nana56?

Luckygirl3 Sat 28-Oct-23 17:10:47

There is no application form Nana56 - it just arrives - usually preceded by a letter.

Nana56 Sat 28-Oct-23 17:16:36

Well last year, no letter. I got it as did my husband. That's why I've kept it to one dide

Ailidh Sat 28-Oct-23 17:18:24

Got a letter by mid October the last two years, not had one this year yet.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 28-Oct-23 17:26:26

If you and your husband are receiving the state pension you are both entitled to the winter fuel payment - it’s one payment per pensioner household, half to you and half to your husband. For heaven’s sake spend it on your fuel bill! I’ve received a letter today, my husband hasn’t as yet, but that makes no difference - it goes into your bank account and you should use it.

We both had letters last year and previous years. This year I got a letter just this past week. I now get the full £500 myself since DH died.

I have just done self- assessment for HMRC online and discovered I can also access full details of all my pensions and how each one is taxed, how much, tax codes etc, also NI history. Some of this information is newly accessible this year.

The one thing I can’t access information about ( except via the French website) is my tiny French pension, which is the reason I have to do self- assessment. France sends me an annual total but it is no use as it is in euros, and also their tax year is a calendar year.
Because I do SA I also have to add up all my savings interest and declare it. Some banks make this information easy to access, but with others it is hard work. If you don’t do SA, you don’t have to do this, as the banks inform HMRC. I am always worried that I might have missed something. Sorry to digress..

Heavenleigh Do you know why you do not get the heating allowance. Is it because you are too young or do not receive a UK state pension for some reason.

Quite separately we have both received our letters and no doubt the month end bank statement will show the payment

Georgesgran Sat 28-Oct-23 19:05:43

I got my WFP letter yesterday, for which I’m very grateful!

bridie54 Sat 28-Oct-23 20:01:19

As a retired civil servant who worked in benefits/pensions I would advise you to contact them and confirm that they are holding your correct address etc.
As has been said, you do not need to claim The Winter Fuel Payment and if you and your husband both receive State Pension it will be a payment made to both of you.

Nana56 Sat 28-Oct-23 20:21:20

I should have said that last year despite not getting a letter we both got £500. Kept to one side expecting a letter to repay.
They must have the correct address as the only letter I eventually got confirming my pension arrived. I have checked the information I originally sent is correct

Katyj Sat 28-Oct-23 20:43:50

I got my letter yesterday £250 it’s my first year. I think DH got £500 last year, it looks like they spilt the £50O now between us ?
