New car dilemma

Sikipoo, is it possible you didn't actually put it into gear as it was new to you? This has happened to me in the past and I have realised it was my fault. I had a new Clio many years ago and the whole gear box fell out as I was driving! I did get a new one quite quickly though.

Another “stupid” suggestion but is it possible you had accidentally knocked it into neutral? Because there is no clutch to use it’s not hard to do by accident and especially if you are new to it, it’s possible to nudge the “lever”.
I once accidentally knocked mine into Sport mode and couldn’t understand why it started over revving.
I would take it out again but with someone beside you and take it through its paces.

I know this sounds stupid, so forgive me! Is the car automatic and is it remotely possible that you had your foot on the brake, not the accelerator?

I’m often amazed how often people get the pedals mixed. An old colleague ploughed his car through a wall, thinking he’d hit the brake, but it was the ‘gas’.

You can’t reject goods if no fault has been found. I would suggest you get a second opinion. The AA may be able to help - they inspect second hand cars for defects.

Are you sure the problem is the car. Last year I acquired an elderly Hyundai i120.

The first few weeks I had it I had stalling not starting problems and battery draining problems. The cause turned out to be that the car would not start unless you depressed the clutch before going into gear, So when I stalled, I just turned the starter and of cou - and of course it didn't work, the same with the stafter, that too had to be depressed before pullinh out. So start by going back tot he handbook to see if there is something you should do this casr that no one has told you about.

My daughter had a similar problem with another manufacturer. She only had the new car for two days and was stranded in Shetland. The AA were useless. It was eventually diagnosed as a software problem, after she limped back to Glasgow.

I should have said - like you I would just be waiting for it to happen again and would have no confidence in it.

My husband researched the car extensively and we know 2 friends who have the same model.

It’s a Dacia jogger hybrid. I would still like another one, but they have to be ordered and that will take time.

don't you have the right to reject the car and get a refund within that timeframe; for that is a major problem.
if it were me, i would insist on a refund, and go buy a different car from a different dealer.
and remember to check user reviews both for model and dealer before buying anything.
