New clothes

One of my friends took me down to Cribbs Causeway Mall (Bristol) yesterday to buy some new clothes for my holiday at the end of this month.
Spent all day walking round and couldn't find any suitable dresses!
Mostly because a lot of them don't have any sleeve at all or the styles just don't seem to fit older bodies.
Came home very disappointed, can anyone advise for me to have a look online please?

kittylester - me, I have the skinniest, scarred legs (eczema) in the world - so is trousers only, for me ..

mrshat Sat 04-May-24 16:57:03

kittylester I never wear dresses - they never fit properly, I've always blamed my body shape but maybe it's the dresses! Always tops and trousers or skirts. Much happier in those. x

Am I the only person who doesn't like dresses? Or are my legs worse than everyone else's?

I wear maxi dresses in the summer and just above the knee dresses with thick opaque tights in the winter.

I try to ring the changes otherwise I would live in gym wear or jeans 🤣🤷‍♀️

I'll have to try John Lewis I suppose or even Seasalt. I'm so disappointed in M&S.

GrannyGravy
I am like you long dresses/ skirts in summer, and opaque tights and above knee dresses/ skirts in winter, cropped jeggings on chilly spring autumn days.

Kitty size and shape of my legs are fine, the colour if them is either corned beef or chopped ham and pork depending on temperature grin

Uniqlo, Monsoon, Godren Sjoden

I am a big fan of gradual fake tan on my legs from now through to end of September downtoearth and kittylester

AskAlice Sat 04-May-24 18:36:27

GrannyGravy13, me too! Not the full -on fake tan, but the leg moisturiser with a gradual effect. Hides a multitude of sins and looks very natural.

Joseann Sat 04-May-24 18:53:07

Which fake tan make, please?
One that doesn't leave traces on bed sheets.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-May-24 19:00:09

I have been using this for years.

Apply after shower, takes approximately 5-10 minutes to dry completely and hey ho raring to go

👍

For the first time ever, I have started buying clothes on EBay. I am going to stick with Boden and Max Mara new without tags if possible. Although two Max Mara jackets are fabulous even if pre worn.
I was disillusioned with the styles on sale in M&S when I looked recently.

Ditto.

I wonder why?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-May-24 20:27:40

ronib I am a Boden fan, they have good sales/discounts on their website m.

GrannyGravy I use the Dove one,at least my ankles look tanned grin

Esmay Sat 04-May-24 21:02:32

I wear so many layers in the winter that I can't wait to wear pretty colourful dresses .
My legs aren't my best feature - too chubby and thread veiny so I wear midi or maxi dresses and fake tans or tights if desperate .
Another vote for Garnier - brilliant stuff .

ronib Sat 04-May-24 21:07:26

Also EBay is good on clothes for children. New Boden joggers age 5 years for half price! Disney pyjamas for £6…

I use the Dove one too - 'light skinned' version for me. I usually use it once a week through the Summer on my legs as they don't tan as fast as the rest of me somehow!

Summerfly Mon 06-May-24 03:48:06

I’ve always found that LIXY. Legs take forever to tan. I’m also a fan of Dove, but Boots own brand is very good too. No streaks either.

I liked the revival of tunic tops and skinny bottoms. It rather suited my shape.
Now waists are back "in" along with wide leg trousers. Neither are a good look on me.

Luckily there are a couple of small dress shops in Border towns who carry a selection of really nice brands. I can usually find something to tempt me.
I am someone who doesn't enjoy shopping or trying on clothes and
I sympathise with your predicament.

Am jubilant after a visit to White Stuff this morning. I actually bought two tunics and a dress! I'm so pleased with them. I haven't bought any clothes for ages, maybe a year at least. I hate clothes shopping and this was relatively painless. I even got a discount. I'd not have even thought of White Stuff until I read a recommendation on GN. Thanks.
