For heaven's sake. This forum is meant to be FUN!! Unless something posted is unpleasant (there have been one or two). it does not matter what is said. It can also be very usefully informative, which is seriously important. We very often cannot get information from professionals but can from Gransnetters, through their own experiences.
Having the occasional rant or frustrated explosion is absolutely fine. Better to do it here than throw a frying pan at a spouse!
This happened to me. I looked in News and Politics for a thread about banning phones for 16 year olds, didn't see anything so started one. Problem is there was one in Chat Asked GNHQ to merge the two but they can't
The more the merrier. Some popular threads get so long that the same thing is being posted multiple times so no difference really from having two or three threads on the same subject.
I have said there’s another thread about this, which is certainly not a reprimand but the problem is if you’ve got two or more threads about the same subject you will probably miss out on some important points of view as yes they will be watered down I always look down the active list first but if someone pointed out there was already one I d be happy for mine to be deleted if it wasn’t first to the ball
I always scroll down the Active list before starting a new thread, especially if the subject is newsworthy but Sod’s Law says that by the time I click ‘Post,’ somebody else will have had the same idea and they appear just a couple of minutes apart.
Personally, I usually post ‘another thread already’ if I see one duplicated.
This isn’t intended as a ‘reprimand’, but it just seems pointless to have more than one running, especially on tv programmes such as ‘Strictly’ or ‘Sewing Bee’, as you just end up with diluted responses.
Or posters post on both, which just duplicates things anyhow.
I don't consider it a crime to have more than one thread on the same topic. Surely it indicates an interest in the topic? Mumsnet have many threads on the same thing. If it bothers *you, you can just ignore. There are many threads on subjects I have no interest in or find too contentious and I just ignore. *Not referring to OP!
Often people start a thread without realizing there is already an active thread on the same subject. Some G. Netters find this irritating and see fit to ' reprimand' the poster who committed this ,' crime' my question is why? Ok ,I recognize it is preferable not to do this , but it is big deal ! Perhaps I am alone with this view ?
